I kinda have to chuck in my 2 cents here. If you're looking for great albums don't look beyond:
U2: The Joshua Tree/ Achtung Baby(the former more so)
Bob Dylan: Blood on the Tracks/ Blonde on Blonde
    Radiohead: OK Computer
Queen: A Night At The Opera
Metallica: The "Black" Album/ Master Of Puppets
    Led Zeppelin: III
Jimi Hendrix: Anything He Ever Wrote/ Recorded.Genius.

    Brilliant: One And All

Didn't like the Black Album. Very formulaic for my tastes. Listening to Weezer, the Green Album now. Kicks so much ass. Nerd-rock for ever! :D

"I dont know anything about Kula Shaker except that their Colombian and may be Hare Krishnas".......er, no, their singer Crispian Mills was an English public school boy. And further to the thread, Revolver, Sergeant Pepper, Pet Sounds and Zeppelin I all defined most music for the following generations and still haven't been bettered. Even by Damien Rice.

Unrelated topic, anyone else find it shocking how cheap the ticklets for velvet revolver are? Heard it on the radio, 34.50

On a (slightly) more on-topic note, I have that queen album on LP spraypaint. It rocks indeedily

they're giving them away because nobody wants to go. come on, the point like? think again.
speaking of the black album, i really really like jay-z.

  • Registered Users Posts: 13,034 ✭✭✭✭It wasn't me!

34.50 ain't that cheap. It's a good price for a band like that though. And it's the Point. You going Aonghus?

if this unrelenting assault on indie doesn't subside soon ill be forced to take matters into me own (nerdish) hands... (oh, its stopped...)

promenade by the divine comedy is another great album....

    hey here's an idea:

instead of fighting over what's the best album.... why restrict ourselves to 20 or so tracks? why don't we get a huge hard drive, dump them all on it (everyones preference) and then we can have a SUPER ALBUM!!!

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,851 ✭✭✭PurpleFistMixer

So you're saying we should all basically get ourselves mp3 players, put our favourite songs on them, and listen to them at our will?

Dear god I think he's on to something.

And also, wasn't this thread originally about choosing an album with a limited number of the best songs ever, instead of just arguing about what already existing album is the best?

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,383 ✭✭✭Aoibheann

that's what this thread was in the first place, naming songs that would be in your favourite album, not complete albums of one band. (I should know, I started it. :D)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 470 ✭✭jono087

does any thread ever stay on topic!? sometimes i think they have lives of their own.....

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,383 ✭✭✭Aoibheann

yes, but the original topic can be still used. I mean, peoples favourite songs may change, they can post a new list. I'll post one later, I have different favourites to back when I started this.

By complete coincidence, I was mulling over this "Best 10 records ever" question this evening. So I can't let this opportunity slip by. A list of 10 records that I'd whack the volume up to full if I heard on the radio. I don't believe I should apologise for my eclectism so I won't. Just jam a napkin between my teeth and the spasms should subside eventually...

    Gerry Rafferty - Baker Street
U2 - Bad (live on the ltd edition 4-track EP)
    Simple Minds - Waterfront
    The Specials - Do Nothing
The Carpenters - Goodbye To Love (Yes. Really. Unexpectedly lush guitar solo at the end)
    James - Sit Down
    Pink Floyd - Comfortably Numb
    Abba - Dancing Queen
    Rainbow - Stargazer
Madness - It Must Be Love

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,858 ✭✭✭Undergod

Miles Davis - Kind of Blue
Miles Davis - Birth of the Cool
Red Hot Chili Peppers - Higher Ground
    Black Sabbath - Paranoid

Mainly for the influences they had. I'll edit as I think of more
