I think we have a few BMW aficionados here, so where do you guys get your parts? I want to get the 525 as close to stock as possible, so I need to replace a missing ashtray in the back and the badge off the gearknob. The badge can't be got, a gearknob is €25; and KOL wants €45 for the ashtray. Breakers is no good for the ashtray, or at least the last breaker I went to wouldn't split door parts. Anywhere I might get these a bit cheaper?

I tend to get many parts in either German & Swedish (near Park West in Dublin) or Euro Car Parts (in Belfast). There are also places like OTTO in Ranelagh.
The partuicular parts you are hunting are unlikely to be available in these places - they are better for service parts.
If you wish I can look up the part numbers from BMW and you can phone them tomorrow for their price. Alternatively, you can look up the part numbers on either of these two links which are ETK based:-

    http://rust.mine.nu/bmw/carselect.do
I bought a new leather gear knob, gaiter and ///M badge for my E30 recently and it set me back about €70. BMW do these badges.
Another place to try is UK based www.fabdirect.com - online and reputable BMW breakers.

Try www.ebay.co.uk those items won't be found at GSF etc.

If you can handle the German (or guess a bit), and the stuff you need is also relevant to LHD models then you should also check www.ebay.de. Or any Ebay site, actually, but use the power-search and specify "available to anywhere".

The BMW site lets me register, but I don't get the confirmation emails, what's the deal with that?
