Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    hi folks

not sure where i should post this but im a newbie to cork and starting third year in ucc soon.

i will be staying in ballincollig, so am wondering where on earth i can park a car in or around the university, or western road area.?

can i get a permit? or use a filling station or something?

i heard cork is ruthless with clampers.

    cheers

Never never park in a disabled spot even for 1 minute

I have seen many a car towed for this reason alone

You could park be the lough and walk the rest but it will only take you 10 minutes or so

UCC is hopeless for parking alright but as far as I know they are building a multi story car park by the main gates off UCC

Which leads to my question, are those gates ever going to open again!?
Twas a lovely enterence to a lovely college :(

    where is the lough?

i am a newbie, dont know much about places and stuff! also where are these places >>

(There is a (useless!) student car-park right next to the University) and then in addition to that there are two park and ride car parks servicing the college.

As mentioned earlier one is at the end of college rd (Dennehy's Cross end) the other is on the Pouladuff Road

    ?

That's an art gallery and small restaurant - it'll be open soon enough and they'll reopen the main gates.

The student car park or the two park and rides are your only real options. They're very big on clamping and towing around UCC.
The student car park will fill up before 8 once term starts.

Simply answer - get the bus.

A very frequent bus services operates from Ballincollig (Rte 222) to the city centre passing UCD. Why bother fighting car traffic and parking hassel?

your best bet is by the mardyke - when you come to the front gates of ucc - turn to your right - this is mardyke, there is an old ear & eye hospital on the right, straight accross from that is a good place to park or even in the hospital car park & your car will be very safe.

Once they're finished resurfacing the Western Road, you should be able to get parked on the road behind the guest houses (the name escapes me) that runs parallel to it. I would get the bus myself though - driving around Cork really raises my blood pressure...

Work in UCC myself, so here's what I know....

The student car park (College Road) is the most convenient but, as has been said, will be full by eight during term. Your best bet is probably the Dennehy's Cross Park and Ride facility (AKA Pres), which is basically straight in from Ballincollig. During term, this will fill by ten, but cars will regularly leave. Don't bother taking the (free) bus unless its there waiting, you'll walk to UCC in less than 10 min.

Do not, repeat DO NOT try to get into one of the main staff car parks - security will NOT raise the barrier and you'll have cars honking at you from behind! If you're desperate, you could try parking at the Perrott's Inch car park (Gaol Cross) - this costs a few euro but is also often full.

Despite rumour, UCC will NOT be building a multi storey car park, and are planning to charge for staff parking. You should get a space on Mardyke Walk (the one behinbd the guest houses referred to earlier - 5 min walk from UCC) but be aware it is a disc parking area. There is a stretch of free parking on Western Road across from the Esso garage but this is usually full by nine.
