looking for feedback on Digiwebs ADSL products and service.
I want to know if they're any good and how they compare to other providers.

Would like feedback on the quality of both their network, customer service, expertise etc.
Also has anybody dealt deal with them as a partner/reseller?

I have been dealing with them for nearly a year. (I was on thier fixed wireless service until about a week ago.)

Their customer service is quite good at the moment, not too often that you are holding in queue and their staff are usually as helpful as they can be.

Unfortunately interleaving is still set to high at the DSLAMs they use but, on asking them to change it to low, they are working on getting it changed. (Apparently Eircom were saying that they couldn't lower it  but I'd say they'll get it sorted soon enough.)

Otherwise the dsl service is fine.

thanks for your feedback Clown Man.

Anybody else use their DSL package

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,511 ✭✭✭digitaldr

I've been using Digiweb DSL for about 6 months. On the few occasions I've phoned them I've found it to be a refreshingly pleasent experience - no going on hold and you usually get to speak to the same person. All in all a great ISP.

  • Registered Users Posts: 515 ✭✭✭NeverSayDie

Yeah, have a DigiWeb package for a few months now. Very happy indeed with them, installation/connection was very fast in particular - ordered Monday, all sorted and online by Friday afternoon. Performance and reliabilty has been excellent, no downtime or dropoff in performance that I can recall.

I'm getting runty pings from them and I have the 1Mb/s dsl package.Online gaming is a nightmare with digiweb at present. With Eircom my pings to Battlefield 1942 servers were between 50 and 150, with Digiweb they are a contsant 200+ :(

Have you let them know you're having problems dannyd??

No point complaining to us tbh, and they don't sound like the kind of company that would let you suffer like that for too long after informing them of the problem.

I've been with them since April. All was fine up until last week when the DSL connection light went off on the modem. My whole experience of support was pretty poor I have to say. When I called last Tuesday, I got through to a technician in about 7 minues - which is OK.

They confirmed everything at their end and said it is likely to be a line problem and they would log it with Eircon who take 24 to 48 hours to respond. Support also reckoned it could be a line filter so I said can you send them out anyway which they said they would (but they didn't)....

Cutting a long story short, I had to make all the calls to support to chase the issue - callbacks promised weren't received and voicemails I left were unanswered. Finally when I got through this Monday to support again, they said a new modem and filters were sent out last Friday.. They weren't - they were only dispatched on Tuesday and I received them on Wednesday. Turned out to be modem problem.

I emailed Digiweb on Wednesday to ask could they review procedures for when a customer reports "DSL light not lighting" so other customers wouldn't be down for over a week. It was read on Wednesday and nobody has responded as yet.

I'll post again if I get any sort of response from Digiweb.

I get the feeling I am probably sharing my line with no-one! I have always gotten excellent sub 40ms pings to superserver for BF1942 (Desert COmbat). That said one problem I have had is the DNS server which does seem to go down intermittently (maybe once every week or two), I use a few different DNSs so I didn't notice initially, also a local DNS cache avoids the problem.

  • Registered Users Posts: 852 ✭✭✭DannyD

    Captain Trips,
How come your BF1942 pings are so good even if you have no one else in the 24:1 contention ? I thought this interleaving effected everyone regardless ?

i'm on their 1meg unlimited service

they throttle p2p! and before I registered I called them up and asked if they throttled and they said no! and it didn't say anything about it in their terms and conditions!

their stuff is nice and polite but this throttling is unacceptable! and what pisses me off is that they tell you they don't throttle! when they obviously do! i'm canceling! and am very unhappy!

the first day i connected i could max out with BT emule or whatever!

    now I can't reach speeds over 15kb/s!

I took my laptop to my friend that has eircom and tried it there on with the same torrent and tracker and I got 56kb/s on him 512/128!

and I talked to the tech support and the guy told me himself! I talked to one guy before talking to him and he denied throttling, but this guy told me they do throttle!

btw, about pings I'm playing CS:CZ now and my ping is 148! and that sucks!

*update it's 265 while gaming!* 148 while observing!

  • Registered Users Posts: 852 ✭✭✭DannyD

I'm also on the 1mb unlimited package.Today I played battlefield and was getting 24ms ping which is unbelievable. However this must have been an exception as I normally it's 200ms +.

They are in breech of their terms and conditions if they are restricting downloads. What can we do ? Once you signup you have a 12 month contract ! Cyberghost, how are you going about canceling ?

will call them tomorrow, they lied to me! and when I was signing up there was nothing said about p2p in their terms and conditions, now they are throttling me! and if they if don't cancel or fix it! will just cut the payments and i will make it my job to ruin them!(especially that my brother is a good lawyer) and to let everyone know what digiweb really is! it's better to lose one customer then lots of them!

I called netsource before calling them! and they told me "yes we do slow down p2p":

these guys said, no we absolutely don't slow down anything! when I signed up it was running fine for a while and then they slowed it down like hell once they saw i was using p2p!

and no they don't block ports! they filter the traffic! and kill p2p! so you will have a green light in BT but will get crappy speeds!

    just look at this!
    <image snipped>

tried that same torrent at my friends and he max out his connection!

    scammers!

    Its in their T&Cs

I quizzed their sales rep on the phone about whether they throttle bandwidth on known p2p ports and initially she said no. When i pressed her further and pointed out that they had a reputation for doing just that she came clean. Lucky i did because i could easily have made the mistake of signing up to them.
You can stay ahead of them for a while by changing the ports you use but they constantly monitor the traffic so it's only a matter of time before they throttle the new ports you've selected.
try changing the port range in your torrent client to 49152 to 65535. They're not known p2p ports and bittorrent works on those also i think. Does for me anyway :D

    but why?

    1. "." is different and "!" is different
    1. I'm not linking to anything! it's my image taken from my machine.

anyways rules are rules, so next time I will use "."

very strange, how can someone be in breach of there contract for throttling the downloading of illegal items on p2p

in fact why did you believe a sales rep in the first place, anyone signing up for a service should always check the facts for themselves, do not rely on a person whose sole function is to simply sell you a product

there there to persuade you to buy there product, if there base station was a 100 miles away and you knew it, theyd persuade you its only outside the door sir

I agree, the 1mb uncapped service has become very slow.I'm only online with them a few weeks and haven't payed anything yet and don't think they deserve any money. Online gaming doesn't work due to the same slow pings. I was getting 100KB/s up till yesterday, today its down to between 5 and 25KB/s when it's supposed to be 100KB/s.

Do all people who download , download warez ? Thats the stupid comparison you are making by saying all people who use the legal p2p protocols are downloading warez. get your facts straight.

if you don't believe sales rep then who to believe? their job is to tell you the truth, yes, sell you the product, but you have to lie to the extent.

    and yes! pings are AWEFUL!

p2p is dead slow, try it, I bet you won't go higher then 10kb/s on BT and over 6kb/s with emule. and no they DO NOT block your ports, they use a new filtering/priority system, which slows down p2p packets severaly.

I thought well ok hell with it, atleast I will play games online, but this is a fecking outrage, 260 ping on cod. no server lets me in.

I'm asking what am I paying for?

I'm on digiwed wireless and last night and tonight are absolutely brutal. I am on the 512/128 service and I get between 400 and 550kb download and 250 and 280kb upload normally, but last night and tonight I am only getting between 30(yes 30) and 100kb and 10kb upload. This is pure ****e. I rang and complained first thing this morning and I was promised a callback, but never got it. Anyone know what time the phonelines open in the morning? I will be back on to them first thing to tell them to come out and take their system back unless the can offer me some sort of a better service than I am presently getting. I only have the service one week and I have already been on to them 4 times.

At the moment its so bad that I am thinking of pulling out the old phonewire and going back on to dial up.

it's dead slow, Danny, I wasn't able to take that test for some reason(yes, I have java installed) but my speeds don't go over 10-12 kb/s i know that because I have internet speed monitor always turned on

pages take a lifetime to reload.
