Horse****. It's because of the v-sound like Blisterman said. The brain tends to read stuff phonetically and tends to regard the f of(f) as a v. There's also the thing that we tend to skip over the smaller words when reading. It's not that the brain "cannot" process them, it's that we tend to discard them while examining the major words as a whole.
