 Just wondering if anyone has any ideas on catching snakes, my Californian Kingsnake escaped 6 months ago and after looking for him for a few weeks we presumed he was dead, last friday he showed up in the house but we have moved out since, the landlady basically said she wants him out and i dont know how to catch him, the house is empty at the moment and we hav tried heat lamps, hot water bottles and food but nothing is working, Any suggestions would be brilliant, Thanks

    ok,
if it has been free that long, even if its been surviving on insects, its gonna be *very* hungry, so to catch it, best use a food motivation.

best set up more than one trap.

trap one, get a bin that is higher than the snake is long, place a mousie inside, and make a kinda *stairs* outside up to the top out of books or somthing, leave for 2 nights. Must be placed in warmest part of the house, no harm to place a mild heat source nearby (heat stimulates appetite).
(If this dosent work u may have to try using a small live mouse, if the snake has been feeding on live mousies while its been out, it might not take a dead unless its desperate.)

    Trap two,
place a ring of flour around the edges of the room overnight, if he crosses this you will be able to tell the direction he went and will know where to search if nothing else.

the majority of escaped snakes will only be active at night, specially if they are trying to feed themselves.
Remember, you will need to catch him soon, we are getting towards winter and one of two things will happed soon, he will either die of cold or go into a hibernation-like state.

let me know how u do
