ipod and windows

I have tried to sync, my contacts to my 20GB ipod 4thgen and nothing happens. when i try and check to see if the vcard info has been transfered to the ipod its showing up on the PC (win xp) but when i check the ipod the vcard info is not there, any ideas?

have you tried just dragging the files across to the "contacts" folder on the ipod manually?
