There I said it. I hate the taste of it
Am I the only one? There must be more people like me who can't stand it too.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,460 ✭✭✭Blisterman

    That was quick.
I don't know why I'm looking up a forum about mustard if I don't like it.
I have too much free time.

Many of the world's finest foods and condiments don't reveal their secrets all at once. Mustard is an acquired taste. Start off by having it mixed with other foodstuffs (look through this forum for recipes) before daring to have it all on its own. Experiment and find out what sort of mustard turns your senses on. It's worth it!

Just because you don't like it, doesn't mean you can't support peoples right to like it

I find the english mustard with the ham and a german or similar mild wholegrain mustard with the cheese. I had a couple of sweet mustards that I wasn't mad about until I discovered that they went really well with turkey ...

Mustard is definatly growing on me, started off accidently having it in a hot dog, next time had one without the "magic yellow stuff" and just didn't taste right.

Next step for me is to try it in a sandwich of sum sort.

    mustard with pickles....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,513 ✭✭✭Sleipnir

I wish I could remember the name of the mustard at that market.
I laughed when shee warned me that the first sample was 'very hot'

A big rolling "take thine puny mustard from this place lest ye feel my boot" laugh.

I didn't laugh at the next stuff she gave me, it was pure lava.

I was going to post agreeing with the thread started but then I remembered I'm a big fan of whole grain mustard. But when ever I think of mustard I always think of the vile english mustard.

Mabye we should have a sticky to open peoples eyes to the less know mustards. :p

there is something very wrong with this thread. for one thing, people who don't like mustard are moaning about it, and people who do are spending there time convincing them to like it. people! take a long hard look at yourselves! you're argueing over mustard! MUSTARD!!!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,330 ✭✭✭✭Amz

    What's your point?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 520 ✭✭✭frodi

I luv mustard but I can't stand coffee or mushrooms. Is there a coffee or mushroom forum where I can complain/

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,330 ✭✭✭✭Amz

Not yet, as coffee and mushrooms weren't deemed worthy of a forum of their own as they are in a completely different league to mustard.

Feel free to propose the creation of such fora.

We do have an English forum though.

Yea, pass the colmans, I've been inspired. After reading this thread I went out to get some mustard for our works kitchen (kettle, toaster & microwave). Triple grain demi-baguette, cheese, tomato & Mustard mmmmm....... /drools over keyboard/ Almost as good as beer flavoured pizza
or is that pizza flavoured beer? :p

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 31,967 ✭✭✭✭Sarky

I don't like strong mustard... but mustard on hotdogs with ketchup and onions!!!! mmmmmmmm..

To the original poster, do you like Eddie Rockets? if so, i presum you have had their burgers/chicken fillet burgers? Do you know that they mix their mayo with mustard, that's why it's damn nice!!!!

If you don't like Eddie Rockets then ignore last statement!!!

I dont like coffee, mushrooms, or Mustard. I am not that picky I just know what I like and dont like :)
The only time I have eaten mustard and liked it was when it was mixed with Miracle whip mayo and put into an egg: Deviled eggs are the only time I will eat mustard.
I have gotten a hotdog with mustard on it and it was horrible, I had to scrape the taste off my tongue, same with a hamburger, I took the bun off and it was still ruined by the smell of the mustard.

Some people just cant eat the stuff...though Honey mustard is good on chicken wings :p

see a pattern here...mixing mustard with something sweet makes it better :D

I've never liked mustard but this forum provoked me to make a decision I would normally never make, I bought a roast beef sandwhch with guinness mustard today.

I thought it might be good for me to open up my taste buds, perhap that I had been too quick to judge mustard in the past and I was pleasantly surprised because the sambo tasted pretty good actually. It was the little bumpy type mustard, had a caviar texture to it and wasn't too intense in flavour. All was well and I ate happily.
It's been an hour since I ate it and now I remember why I don't like mustard.
I have that nasty gangrene type taste in my mouth and I can't get rid of it, I'm trying hard not to exhale too much when speaking as I'm sure anybodu on the other end of the conversation would require a gas mask.
    When will the taste go?

    Brush your teeth?

I bring a little toothbrush and toothpaste with me in my handbag for such occasions :)

Obviously if you're in an office you can keep such items in a desk drawer or something.

Oral hygeine is very important after all.

Here is a haiku I made about mustard.

    Yellow Heaven spread
    Mere sandwich becomes Divine
    Mustard rocks my world.
