I hadn't heard that but was in London over the weekend and HMV in Picadilly are making a big deal out of the fact that they are getting Kenny Baker (R2D2) in to sign copies of the DVD on Monday morning - surely they would know and cancel...? or will the Irish box sets different to the UK box sets (censor stickers aside..)??

i am begining to think he was telling porky pies

there's nothing about it on amazon.co.uk

Haven't heard anything about this and I was in Virgin and Golden discs at Liffey Valley today and they both had their displays set up along the empty boxes, I actually felt goosebumps holding the box (I Know sad but true:o)

I was told that they had the dvds in stock and would probably put them out at the weekend. Although they could not confirm a price yet.

I think there are two possibilities:

    1. Maybe the boxes & discs don't have the Irish film censors classification stickers on them which I would think is unlikely.

    2. Maybe a mistake as Star Trek:Generations was due for release recently and all the dvds where recalled due to a printing error on the boxes. Star Trek, Star Wars might sound similar to someone if they didn't know much about either.

With al the new additions and edits, will it really feel the same? They definately won't be the same movies as before. If its not broke, don't fix it!

The edits/changes arent all that bad, by far the biggest and most questionable is the insertion of Hayden Christensen in retun of the jedi. All the other changes are mostly minor - most ppl probably wont even notice

I think so - I got the gold box and it's full screen.

The gold one is just the "HMV Exclusive " one. Thats the only difference.

I didn't get mine in HMV. I know for a fact there are two versions - widescreen and fullscreen.

I am only assuiming since I got the fullscreen and it's gold that the silver is widescreen.

The Gold is full screen BUT only for America so if you bought it from an American site then it is fullscreen Silver is Widescreen.

So ithe GOLD box in HMW is just a gold box you should have the silver Widescreen discs inside.

Surely nobody would willingly buy the Fullscreen version?

I got this message from sendit.com (formerly blackstar) yesterday:

It looks like they accidently packed two copies of ROTJ into the boxset...
    Haven't checked mine yet

Thank you for buying a copy of Star Wars Trilogy Boxset from
    Sendit.com.

We have become aware that a small number of copies of Star Wars Trilogy
Boxset contained an error on disc one. We believe this error only
    affects a
small number of copies but request that you check your boxset upon
    receipt.

The Error - The disc labeled "A New Hope" actually plays "Return of the
Jedi". All other discs in the boxset are accurate.

If you have received a faulty copy and have not already informed us,
    please
contact care@sendit.com by Monday 27th Sept so that we can arrange
    return
    and replacement of your item.

Thanks in advance and apologies for any inconvenience caused.

    Regards

    The Care Team

Just checked in HMV 2 minutes ago and the both of them are in 16:9 format, there is no 4:3 format available in region 2.

Yip, that's it. I bought mine in the US and was offered a choice of Widescreen or Fullscreen.

Because I don't have a widescreen TV, simple as that!

You should still buy widescreen DVDs for future-proofing purposes. In the meantime with your 4:3 television set, you can go into DVD player setup and choose "Television Format - 4:3 Pan Scan". You'll probably still see black bars top and bottom but they won't be the huge black bars that you normally get with films (they'll be the kind you normally see when watching a widescreen tv program).

Fullscreen DVDs really wreck your head when you go to watch them on a widescreen TV, so it's worth buying widescreen DVDs if you want your collection to last.
