I have to say I was a bit late gettin into the Frames. There's no doubt that they're incredible live but I haven't listened to their studio albums much. I've read a couple of really mean reviews of their new album recently but they've never really been media darlings anyway. So, what do you think of their new album.? I'm not sure yet. I have a listen to an album at least 6 times before i can come to a decision on it.

Happy - great song, maybe fav on album
Finally - Like it a lot, glen does the "powerful angry desperate" vocals great on this song
Dream Awake - gets stuck in my head, growing on me ill give it time
Caution to the birds - excellent
Trying - good once it gets going
Fake - Preferred the vocals on the single version, seems like they're trying to decommercialise it on the album, music on it seems better to me
Sideways down - great for going to sleep to (mean that in a good way!), like the violin
Underglass - bit different but fukin love it, was great live too
Ship that caught the bay - dont like this all too much
keepsake - good song, one of glens favorites on the album he was sayin in hmv
Suffer in silence - ok song, cant see myself listening to it too much
Locusts - like this a lot, keyboard sounds great

between happy and underglass for my fav song, maybe their best album so far

From one listen, I think its a farily drab affair. Fake is an awful song IMO. One of those rhyming songs, for the sake of it. A bit saccharin sweet. Seems the Frames are not taking what makes them good live into the albums. They need to rediscover their collective balls.

I disagree with you on all your points except on Fake. Dislike that song. Rest of the album is excellent.

Caution To The Birds is my favourite.

Ok, so after seeing them last night the album's grown on me somewhat. Fake would be a good song apart fom the chorus. Fake/Mistake/Door/For. If you're not particualrily anal I suppose it doesn't matter. Keepsake is actually a decent song. Glen described it as "a song about setting fire to your house, breaking of the key in the lock, and keeping something... anything, and giving it to someone on the way into town"????!!!!?? Finally brought out a decent performance (better than the single). I can't help thinking that a lot of the album songs would work better acoustically, with a bigger emphasis on Colm's violin.

I picked up the album on Saturday and i've listened to it about 10 times so far. With each listen it's growing and growing on me, in the same way "For the Birds" did.

Favourite song would be "Dream Awake". Graham Hopkins plays very well on this track. Havent seen them live this year but can't wait to hear this track live.

I'd say the album will sound better with each listen but in saying that I don't believe it will be a patch on "For the Birds" but maybe up there with "Dance the Devil"
