I have been asked to join a metal band with some good friends, and i am going to give it a shot. I have been told to learn:

    Ace Of Spades - Motorhead
Four Horsemen (4 minutes version) - Metallica
    Devils Island - Megadeth
    ****ing Hostile - Pantera

I was thinking, what good metal songs are easy to play and that gets people going? I was thinking of stuff like Panteras version of Cat Scratch Fever, Only For The Weak by In Flames, Vampire Sun by Cathedral and NIB by Black Sabbath.

Im the drummist by the way, and i dont have a double kick yet and im not the best, so this will be hard, yet fun!

    Any suggestions?

    Easy for you or everyone?
I Hate You by Slayer is fairly accessible on drums anyhow.

Purely for easiness on drums...Sleep Now In The Fire (RATM) Cowboys From Hell, Enter Sandman, Battery (w/out dbl kick & w/out fills), King Nothing, Die, Die My Darling (Misfits)...I'll have a thinkie and get back to ya on that.

I would not recomment learning N.I.B, its not that hard to play, but for guitar and bass theres a LOT to rememebr in it (and if your ognna play the bass intro, good luck to your bassist, its fiddly as hell).

Generally speaking tho, Sabbath are usually quite easy to cover, its covering them well thats very very hard (and you may get murdered if you do it badly in the wrong crowd). A fair bit of Iron Maiden also isnt that hard (The Wicker Man is easy as piddle, but not a great song IMO).

    Therapy? Screamager.
    Rock.

    For Whom the Bell Tolls.

Sabbath are a band whose fans will crucify you if you cover one of their songs badly, and it's hard to cover any band pefectly. Might want to try some easier stuff like Placebo first. Most metal tends to be a bit harder than other styles.

My other band does For Whom The Bell Tolls, and me and the bassist do a jam over NIB, (including the intro ;) ).

Screamager would be pretty damn good, Cowboys From Hell is getting suggested and i think Die Die is on the setlist!

Thanks! Keep adding to this so it becomes a good list for bands?

RATM - Killing in the name - its overdone a bit but its easy on drums (apart from that solo thing in the middle).

whiskey in the jar is easy aswell.

A lot of megadeth stuff is ok on drums too, particularly off countdown to extinction.

Anything by Metallica really, as long as you leave out any double-kick or the more complicated fills, the basic beats are a piece of piss.

off topic: someone mentioned die, die my darling earlier, i love this song, are there any other metallica songs wth a similar pounding rhythm that i can get? also if anyone can point me in the direction of any metal with a similar punkish rhythm, it'd great. listen to the song to see what i mean..

    LOL. Good point.

Try Sentenced and some In Flames, they are fairly handy as far as drums go.

Go to the source- Misfits. The original of Die, Die is a hell of a lot better than Metallica's cover. Be prepared though, almost all of the earlier stuff suffered from poor recording. Still class even to this day thoguh! Also try and pick up some of the newer stuff, American Psycho is an amazing album with some fairly metallish songs in it.

Fuel by 'Tallica (can get away with using toms for the chorus)
Dr. Phibes Rises Again, Dig Up Her Bones & Last Caress by Misfits
Walk by Pantera (ALWAYS a god metal crowd pleaser!)

Hey, leave 'em alone ya big meanie!

Pantera stuff is pretty cool, your guitarist may shoot you for suggesting that they should learn any of dime's solo's though, also some of vinnie's timing is pretty hard but the likes of Walk is real easy and a great crowd pleaser! :D well it would please me anyway!

just on the subject of Misfits covers they all pale in comparison the wonderful Danzig era stuff you need his voice but if you want an interest version Cradle have a cover of death comes ripping its not as good as the original but its still legend.

Mother by Danzig is a nice easy song to cover

Kinda suprised no one said 'Smoke On The Water' or 'Paranoid' or 'Stairway' - hehehehe thw quintessential 'guitar shop' tracks - it's like murder to the ears....aaaahhhh bless...

    Battery (w/out dbl kick & w/out fills)

dont think thats worth learning then. great song and energy in it. but the double kick really promotes the speed and sound of the song.

    my band covers.........

    pantera - dominationt
arch enemy - ravenous ( known by many but great song )
iron maiden - 2 minutes to midnight
slayer - postmortem / raining blood / black magic all in one long song

Give 13 steps to knowhere a go by Pantera ......... p1ss easy tbh ;)

And also if you ever listened to seek and destroy coverd by Pantera,is a ruff way to learn the song

Then get an Elvis impersonator! I remember reading somewhere he was always facinated by The King's voice and wanted to emulate it.

Emm - Dude, they were 'metal' before there was 'metal'; i.e. long before NWOBHM, NWOAHM, 'Heavy', Speed, Trash, Speed, Black, Death, Techno-Metal, Grunge & Nu-Metal were even a distant thought in someone's head - think you need to check your music history - you crazy kids today eh.... LOL

[think I got them in chronological order there - feel free to correct!]
