Woah, that would want to have been cheap. Can't stand 2 person cars.

not tied down with a family just yet,
and my mates can all drive,
so i'm rarely stuck wanting back seats.

    -driver/passenger/2 curtain airbags
    -ABS
    -EBD
    -Air con
    -Imobiliser
    -Central locking
    -Electric rimless windows
    -tiptronic & automatic gearbox

    f-n deadly.

Insulting the man's motor like that is generally seen as bad form you know. A 2 person car makes perfect sense if there's only ever going to be 1 or 2 people in the car, better than buying a 5.0 litre V8 barge and then never carrying any passengers.

    Very nice mate, great colour.

As far as I can recal they're not that cheap here. How much did you pay for it ??

Excellleeeeent! Welcome to the world of Smart. Expect me to be giving you a big thumbs up at the lights when I pull up next to you (03 Bay Grey and Silver Pulse)

    Ignore the naysayers is my advice, just ask them two questions;
    1. So, does your car have a turbo?
    2. When was the last time a complete stranger came up to you and said "Wow, your car is so cool!" (happens to me on average about four times a week)

If they are still not convinced then mention getting 60 mpg and 45 mpg if you thrash it..when they bring up the two seats, ask 'em how often they have anything at all on the back seat...

Time for an Irish Smart Club...PM me for details.

Most of all enjoy - best car I have evah driven...evah!

it faster than my ma's 1.0 litre yaris.
they get snapped up pretty fast here,
i was after 2 in cork a while ago,
which were 2000 reg and pretty standard.
they go for about €6000 at that age [they hold their value pretty well]

anyhoo, i managed to jump on one from a guy in naas.
it's a late 2000 reg [december 10th], and has ALL extras except alloys.
he should have been looking for at least €6500.

but i'm a bargainer, so got it for a steal!
    .....€4600!

I have always liked these but was put off by the number of left-hand drive examples. Is there any reduction in visibility as a result? And did your insurance include a loading for LHD?

    Happy motoring.

they are left hand drive up to late 2001/early 2002.
    insurance loading of 10% extra.

you don't even think about it, it comes naturally.
but my da couldn't get used to it coz he's driving too long on RHD.
i suppose it would be harder if it was a big jeep or something,
but the smart isn't exactly very wide.

i got used to LHD last summer in the USA when renting a big people carrier jobbie.

One amazing thing about the Smart is the safety aspect for such a tiny car. The passenger compartment is massively strong. Anyone who doubts this should check out these pics of a crash test betweeen a Smart and a Mercedes S600

    Translating that car test using babel fish it seems that;
The Smart had the same impact as if were driven into a wall at 70 kmph
The door opened by hand afterwards !!!
The driver had a contusion to his left thigh, whilst the passenger had bruising to his thorax
Whilst the Merc had the same impact as if were driven into a wall at only 30 kmph, the crumple zone took most of the transferable energy from the Smart
Whilst the Merc had the same impact as if were driven into a wall at only 30 kmph, the crumple zone took most of the transferable energy from the Smart, hence all the damage to the Merc
