Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

should get a job in Xtra-Vision, QUOTE]
no no no no no no noooooo!!! it will crush your soul!!!!

apart from that, i've heard that the film studies centre is excellent, and it's always well worth doing an MA, especially if it's just for you, and it's in something you're interested in...

Hmmmm i'm in two minds over the MA.

    1. Gregory Peck was the schools patron, he was able to do things like get Sorcese over to review student films and give a lecture (v cool, Cohen Brother, Francis Mc Dormand and Lauren Bacall in the audience) but I was staggered by the arrogance of the courses tutor (long story)

    2. You'll work with some of the best people working in the Irish Industry, Emer Reynolds, Shane Mc Donald, have tutored and supervised shorts belonging to the course. But I'm sorry I've been floored by the lack of basic hands on knowledge about industry fundementals that graduates lack.

It all depends what do you want to do in the industry?

Finally the Xtra vision routine? Oh FFS how will xtravision help you get on in the industry. Get a job as a runner a trainee or a PA if you want to really get stuck in, and stop dicking about.

How much does the course cost?

its about 5-6 grand.. not sure if theres any funding... plus it seems theres a lack of people on the course, hence the late offer i got (not that thats any deciding factor)....

Those who cant do teach and all that....

The Projections book series did a thiing on film schools... the message i got from the book was although you may not get that much relevant info from the lectures... having a year to emerse yourself in film and being around like minded folk is invaluable... by the by the xtra vision idea was a piss take

"Those who cant teach, teach gym...."

Those who cant teach and all that....

Thats a kind of advantage of the MA it's got enough money it can hire serious industry pros, the catch being they're merely tutors for brief periods of time, those who can't teach, and in the film industry those who can will earn way too much working that teaching will only be a mild distraction at weekends

I dunno, I could introduce you to a mate who did it and is now a reader for a film production company. You could take two years or three and do Ballyfermot Dun Laoghaire or Colaiste Dulaigh. Ballyfermot and Dulaigh are VTEC courses and you could get the dole doing them for two years
