Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Hello,

I'm always hearing on the news, "the story was posted on an al qaeda website" and similar.

Does anyone have any links to these websites? I'm curious to see what's on them (as in, their politics, not the movies of dead people.)

    Cheers,
    JV

Not much point unless you can read Arabic!

Admit it, you really want to look at gruesome videos of people being murdered.

If you want to get an Arab-centric view of the current wars, however, Al-Jazeera has a site in English, which will give you a different viewpoint on the various warlets around the world at the moment. Good reporting, too. Google it and it'll turn up.

I've been on one or two of those web sites ( I didn't bookmark them ) they were all in arabic and all the pictures were poor quality the videos....poor quality and grainy and the websites themselfes, well to put it bluntly I think an AOLer was the designer. You'd almost wanna mail them a warezed copy of dreamweaver ( or a pair of glasses and a sense of style ) because they REEEAALLLYYY need it :D

Theres supposed to be a great documentary about Al Jazeera out now, shows how good a channel they can be.

Its funny the way Bush and co. always bad mouth the channel, saying they breed fundamentalism, the reality is Fox does a much better job, Al Jazeera is just reporting from an Arabic point of view, and from how they see it. Naturally the way the Arabic people see the war in Iraq is not the way Bush wants them to see it.

Is it really in the interest of anyone to directly link to a site which features videos of men getting decapitated on a public forum?

people who want to see it?

no one's forcing you to click the link, and if little jim or jane underage wants to see the videos they won't have much difficulty finding them on google.

just because it's "real" doesn't make it any more disgusting/vile than the ****e we get on television, besides the videos are so horribly grainy (that i've seen anyway) that you'd be as well off watching teletubbies if you want to be mentally scarred.

Nobodys forcing anyone to follow those links, and I think if someone wants to see for themselves the barbarity that goes on in the world daily (just because its not reported on sky news, does'nt mean it does'nt happen) then they should have that choice.

While I'm far from innocent, and very far from squeamish, I think watching an actual snuff video is not something I should just blunder into. I don't need to see it, and until I do I'm going to keep whatever shred of innocence I have left. </offtopic>

It's called "Control Room." It's a real gem of a film. Would recommend it to anyone who's either a) been following the war in Iraq or b) interested in the media and journalism.

Why aren't these web site stopped from showing these images?
Isn't it enough to know that these people have been murdered and not have to watch it or have videos of their deaths available as well?
Surely these ISPs who host these sites should be more responsible?

The US does this now and again as they did by blackholing Al-Jazeera during the Full scale war. You watched the US "Shock and Awe" on Sky indescriminately killing people during the war and are somehow morally repulsed by one person being decapitated, it shows the power of propaganda innit.

Don't get me wrong - I find the whole lot sickening.
But I take your point and it's a valid one - how we find it 'OK' to watch these smart weapons in killing action, and 'Not-OK' when we see some guy cutting another fella's head off with a knife.

I got emailed the first guy, nick berg, who got killed.

I didn't expect it to shock me, but it was the most awful sickening thing i've ever seen. If i could reverse having looked at it i would. I felt phisically ill for about 15 to 20 minutes afterwards.

I would advise anybody who is curious to not bother trying to find it. It will have a profound effect on you imho.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 484 ✭✭ssh

The original Nick Berg video was posted on a site called Ansar-Forum, hosted in Indonesia IIRC. It has since been taken down, but I'd say if you went on a google trail, you'd end up finding some fairly heavy stuff.

Most (if not all) of these sites are in Arabic anyway...

And BTW, Al-Jazeera is a news site just like any other, except it tells things from the Arab point of view, instead of a US or UK point of view. There aren't any Islamic fundamentalist chatrooms or snuff videos on there. Try and educate yourself a bit before spouting off crap like you did above...

Johhny Versace, I think this is what you're looking for:

Disclaimer: The easily-offended should not that the above link gives a list of sites. Don't click on the link if you are likely to be offended by a list. And definitely don't go in there and click on any of the links if you are likely to be offended by Islamic fundamentalism and its' associated baggage...

He asked for al-qaeda sites not al-jazeera. Al-jazeera isn't an al-qaeda site. Al-qaeda sites do have snuff videos and Islamic fundamentalist chatrooms on them. Read his post before you reply...

The only one Al Qa'eda Irish site I'm aware of is www.nrf.ie - I read in the Irish Independent last year that 'Al Qa'eda may be recruiting in Ireland' but couldn't find conclusive evidence on their site.

This is a bit silly. How could it not be worse than watching a film? Films aren't real, these videos are. They are videos of an actual murder, some guy getting his head cut off. While watching it Im sure you'd be thinking of what he went through and what his family is going through. You don't get this with a film...

God, some people are thick. That's what I said. Al-Jazeera doesn't - Billy The Squid associated Al-Qaeda and Al-Jazeera, which is why I replied...

I then provided a link for Johnny Versace with a link to what he was actually looking for.

Read further down the thread someone else asked for the al-jazeera link too.

I'm not big into writing profound speeches like some of the other boards members might be so I didnt offer any comment. Personally I dont know of any of Al-Queda or Al qui'eda or how ever you spell its name's websites

On the atricle about Osama Bin Ladin's websites
65.216.200.41 and 66.132.29.71: At one time or another, those two IP addresses acted as al Qaeda domains, but these sites were hacked and taken over by a US-based webmaster, Jon-David Messner. As a side business, Messner runs a successful pornography site, and took it upon himself to hack al Qaeda wherever and whenever it popped up. He could be considered a hero to the US-government for doing a job they've attempted with much less success.

That's a nice way to make a few bob
