I haven't heard of them and google doesn't provide any information either. Did you get any brochures about the content of their courses? Such information might be helpful in figuring out the true nature of this organisation!

You are quite wrong FedEx is not a cult and can't conceive why you interpreted it as so. :p

OK. Sorry about that; just the first ad that came to mind. What were you actually talking about? (Pm me if you think there is a legal element here.)

i go to new acropolis for evening classes in philosophy,

basically they teach philosophy in terms of how you can apply it to your daily life... they take a best of the ancient teachings from around the world, which they recognise as having merit because they come from many different and seperate cultures but come to similar conclusions about life...

they teach you to gain to perspective and awareness of yourself in the sortta
'you are but an insignificant being in a massive universe, so get over yourself type of way'

they teach detachment in the sense of 'if your late for work worrying and stressing about it won't physically get you there quicker'

the only people as far as i know that call new acropolis or similar orgs a cult are far right chrisitian cult watch orgs in the states because NA etc don't automatically recognise there is a god...

although i haven't posted about them here since i last mentioned the place and somebody said, i don't what you say they're dodgy and a cult cos they charge a fee for the course or some such?

    see here http://www.newacropolis.org/

they have just opened a new building on lennox street in portabello and have beginners classes starting in october... and have being doing a bit of advertising drive, so thats why you see lots of posters and brouchures (partially designed by me )around

Has anyone done this course recently. It looks interesting. I was wondering if anyone had got anything out of it?

I did the beginners course last year as well as part of the next course.

Chewy gives a pretty good description of what it's like. It's a synopsis of eastern and western philosophys and how to apply it in everyday life. There is certainly nothing cult like about it. I personally tended not to buy a lot of the teachings and very regularly question the veracity of them and it was always encouraged. In fact the best classes are ones where lots of people ask questions.

Try it for a few weeks and see what you think. Some people always drop out throughout so no big deal if it ends up not being your thing.
