    What is emo?

would HIM count, starting to love that band

  • Registered Users Posts: 278 ✭✭Faddymackshyte

All that I can say, on my part anyway, is well done for admitting that. I say this because to me HIM are the suckiest band alive. I really can't stand them, God its frustrating just hearing their music!! No, fortunatly they wouldnt be emo. Emo is a genre of music that includes deadly guitar riffs, generally screaming....hence the other name"emo screamo!!"........The lyrics tend to be incredibly emotional, emo is a shortened version of emo/hardcore. Can anyone help me out here, its really hard to describe. Maybe my version of it is wrong, but thats hoow I would describe it anyway!!
Whats the deal are SUM 41 trying to go emo? Their new song is heavier than any of their older stuff!!!

Antisocialiser......is it true that Brand New were supposed to support Finch when they came to Irlenad? Fair enough, I missed finch, but Brand New baby.......................why?Its okay, Ive seen Taking Back Sunday, even though they didn't come to Ireland!!!!!!!! And my God were they amazing!!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,583 ✭✭✭✭Creamy Goodness

yes on a very basic level emo is emotional rock.

but it can be split into groups

screamo emo being one such group

  • Registered Users Posts: 278 ✭✭Faddymackshyte

Yeah, thats true, Funeral For a Friend would be considered screamo emo and Jimmy Eat World wouldn't. I kinda forgot about that part!!! Sometimes there can be too much screamo type rubbish. What is needed is good quality emo screamo!!!

firstly the fake sound of progress is not really their first cd i do believe they have at least one more on indepentdent release, but they would be at first nu-metal then they decided to break america probably because the record label wanted more money and lostprophets did too. anyway the new stuff is utter crap i couldnt care what genre they are now but they aint rock or emo and are no longer really nu-metally.

  • Registered Users Posts: 278 ✭✭Faddymackshyte

What, are you serious? Are you only basing your whole argument on their released material, or have you listen to both of the albums. You said that they aren't emo which indicated, to me, that you had another opinion of what genre they were. I'm not being bitchy or trying to sound like I know everything, but thats how it sounded. FSOP is very different to Start Something, and so is the material they release.

did anyone see million dead last year in the hub? they were amazing and yeah they were good supporting ffaf this year too.
so does anyone here like jetplane landing?

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 6,524 Mod ✭✭✭✭dregin

haha, Berkeley were playin that night too!! :D Jetplance are okay from what I've heard. THeir touring guitarist Cahir Dogherty is in a band called Fighting with Wire from Derry. They're pretty good, played HWCH. Here's a few links for them:

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio1/media/inside_r1/fww_francesfarmer.ram
    http://www.bbc.co.uk/northernireland/realmedia/atl/tv/atltv_fww.ram

This page has a few tracks from sessions for BBC Northern Ireland by a load of bands including; element, jet plane landing, Clearshot(class!!!), Berkeley, and Los Cabras.....those are the bands I've heard and liked.
    Anyway, the link is: http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio1/alt/nireland/sessions.shtml

yeah i saw them at HWCH. Cahir is a full time member of JPL is he not? He recorded on the last album. I never got the chance to hear clearshot live unfortunately though im told they supported at the drive-in once. JPL were amazing in the hub the last time they played over here too.

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 6,524 Mod ✭✭✭✭dregin

Is he? shoite, I'm not that well up on their goings on anymore. Yeah I was dyin to go to the ATD-I gig but noone from my area knew them to go up to Dublin with me :( Have their only release on vinyl and CD!!!There was a compilation of all their recorded work (Clearshot's) being put together but it hasnt been mentioned in a couple of years now :( Was pretty pissy when Marty, their bass player died. Used to mail him lookin for demos and stuff. Was a really nice guy.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,750 ✭✭✭ghostchant

yeah i heard about that it was a real shame. Well fighting with wire were pretty good at HWCH anyway. As well as cahir, the drummer from clearshot is in fighting with wire too isn't he?

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 6,524 Mod ✭✭✭✭dregin

Yeah he is alright. I think they have an EP comin out pretty soon. Should be good. Apparently they thought the gig was completely chít. Petty they were on last and noone hung around after Bellend 1 :(

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,750 ✭✭✭ghostchant

yeah the place was pretty much empty but i figured everyone was there for bellX1 anyway.

Yes. JPL are a cracking band, saw them for the 13/14th time (can't remember) last Saturday in London, and am heading to Exeter this Saturday for the end of tour show at the Cavern.

Cahir is a full-time member of JPL, has been for the guts of 2.5 years now. He's still based in Derry though (travels over for shows and recording mainly), so he has plenty of spare time for his "real" job (teaches guitar and song writing in Derry's Nerve Centre) and his Fighting With Wire duties.

FWW are due to release an EP in November, but thats not confirmed yet. There are two FWW tracks available on Smalltwon America's PSB compilations (#3 and #4). Check www.smalltownamerica.co.uk for details)

The Clearshot compilation is on hold due to cost. The boys do want to get it out though, so where theres a will...

Marty was an absolute gem. :(

Clearshot did support ATD-I in Dublin in 2001, Murder City Devils also played. All three bands are now sadly no more. :(

Finally, JPL are due to release their fourth and final single from Once Like A Spark in November and will be a 23 track ep featuring a full live show from London!!! Back of the net...

    Hope that answered everything.

Yeah I might scope them out see what there like live. I think Lostprophets are pretty good. I first heard of them back 2001 I run a pirate radio station and I got a few request in for Shinobi VS Dragon Ninja and I though there were taking the piss ya know, so I went down to Heart Beat City and saw the CD checked it out and there it was Shinobi VS Dragon Ninja though cool and bought it, its an interesting album I dont like one song on it and thats no# 6 the handsome life of swing, never took to that song at all but the rest of the album is kick ass.
The one thing I hate is when you see there videos been played on Smash Hits and all thoses ****ing dumb ass kids pop channels jaysus how anyone listens to that ****ing pop music.
I have to say im not to push on there new album theres about 4 or 5 good songs on it, but hey who cares you either like a band or you dont simple as that everyone has there own taste

I used to love emo , but I grew out of it im not so into it anymore . I dont think its what Rock n Roll is about why Would you listen to thursday(unbelieveable as they are ) when you could slap on some ska and have a laugh .Emo is all about Haircuts . I know a guy whos really into emo and he brought a kerrang magazine or something like that into toni and guy and asked for his hair to be cut just like some guy in Finch for 60 quid ,Cmon for **** sakes like , .Go to Guttermouth .com . They reeaaly have something against the emo , emogame.com and Howtodressemo.com are funny piss take sites. Rival schools are definitely my favvy emo type band though
Some ppl think At the drive in are emo Nobody seems to know what emo is but who cares anyway . At emo gigs in the states people go and cry . Cry !!!. What the **** ? cry me a river!! .Thats a pretty negative attitude .

  • Registered Users Posts: 278 ✭✭Faddymackshyte

Oh my God, crying? Now thats taking it a tad too far, don't ya think now kids?? Thursday are an amazing band live...wow, they honestly blew me away at Leeds this summer!!! Usually if people want a haircut, they just get a handy home scissors to it, not pay 60 quid to do it!! Thats pure bollllllox, what a waste!
