Does anybody know why this is closed?
Been some rumours floating about that the SU is in debt and can't afford to open it. Doesn't seem very likely though.

The shop in Bolton St. and the shop and canteen in Mountjoy are all closed aswell. Apparently the SU has some serious debts, hope they get it sorted soon enough

AST shop was ok price wise.
I'm just lazy and don't want to have to walk across the road to go to the shop.

They lost about 120 grand as the rumour goes. It was either due to losses or fraud. Again this is just a rumour, but i have heard it from a few people. Kinda crap since the shop was nice and convient.

None of the pool tables in Aungier St have the full complement of balls either.....

    This must be rectified ASAP!

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,503 ✭✭✭Makaveli

    I know, that's a bit of a joke alright.
I've very little money at the moment, so I'm not too worried. Big financial drain those pool tables.

I read a note on the SU board that they were in debt and layed off all the staff.

man I love DIT  just go to the UCD student bar , better crack and they have balls in their pool tables.

was well funny , after that Alan guy going on about all the effort they went through to get those pool tables , no balls.

I'm sure most of the rumors are a load of BS , think it was smthing about tax not being paid tho ( another rumor for ya there)

Well one of my lectures told us that they ran into a quarter of a million of debt last year.
It sucks having mo canteen in mountjoy sq though..

The coffee dock and canteen in Bolton street are leased out so they won't close. Not sure about the other cols though. Apperantely the SU owed 300,000 in PAYE and weren't paying their employees taxes (who are now without jobs and can't claim the dole because they weren't paying taxes). Not very fair somehow!

Trust the DitSU to screw up like that.

pparently whoever runs the su shops managed to flee with a hell of a lot of money.

You do all realise that I could get some rather angry people giving me an awful lot of grief if the rumours you all put up here turn out to be untrue? And they can't all be true can they? Therefore you have to take all the stuff on here with a pinch of salt and you might as well just be talking crap in the snackery.

Don't make me start to have to close threads on the forum.

So I'm hearing a couple of things.

    1) Someone legged it off with €100,000 ish. Was reported in the paper before classes went back. Don't know how reliable that story is, to be honest.

    2) It's a simple trade dispute. You probably saw the posters around the colleges during last week advertising meetings about the shops, and DITSU Trading Ltd as a whole. No, I didn't bother going either.

One thing I can tell you....read the first issue of this year's DIT Independent and you will find out the whole story! [/extreme sarcasm]

When you say it'll be in the DIT Independent, (sarcasm aside), you forgot to point out the link between this alleged massive fraud (which wont be printed), and the latest drunken party organised for the aungier street lassies (which will have a 4 page photo spread) :)

Workers left high and dry as students' shops cease trading

Around 40 employees working in students shops in Dublin campuses have been left high and dry since the operating company ceased trading on September 3.

DITSU Trading Ltd., - an associated company of Dublin Institute of Technology Students’ Union (DITSU) Ltd. - owns and manages shops on various campuses of Dublin Institute of Technology.

SIPTU Branch Secretary, Chris Rowland, criticised the actions of the employer saying, “it is unacceptable that an employer would behave in this callous and high-handed manner with no regard for committed, loyal and long-serving staff. DITSU Trading Ltd., is failing to honour even the most fundamental of statutory requirements.

“The primary concern of members of the boards of these companies appears to be to seek legal advice to protect themselves. We have been unable to meet the company so far. This is deeply worrying and underlines the need for absolute transparency, and complete accountability in this shameful situation.

“Unless greater transparency is forthcoming we intend to request the Director of Corporate Enforcement to investigate the affairs of the companies involved.

“We would also ask the management of the Dublin Institute of Technology to make a constructive intervention to resolve this issue,” Ms Rowland concluded.

wow, major scandels here. Whats teh real story??

I'm only in the coll 2 weeks and I hear the DIT Kevin st. made off with the money on some trip somewhere, but as said b4, tis all rumors... or is it???

LOL, tis all a bit serious if u ask me. I'm focking outraged some ppl could rip off fellow students like that. Seriously, I'm really annoyed at this rip off culture that Ireland has. If I see anyone ripping off someone else or me I'll report it immediately.
Like tonight in Galway, I went in this taxi and in fairness we were all going diff directions (almost) and he tried to charge this girl €5 (to for a distance 1/2 Km) then she piked up and asked for his number (which is <blah> by the way). He got pissed off to the point where he reduce her fare by €2 and got a bit pissed off, so much so that he reminded me of a very evil Brendan Grace that I got out (paid €3 to a friend) and walked 2 mile home (its ok I'm well able for it). Just felt I was in a hostile environment.

If the above doesn't make sence I'll re-write it, as its 4.20am after a nite out. Galway is a cool city (OFF SUBJECT) but Ireland is such a ripp off. When u attempt to give out about (which everyone should) u feel as if u are going against the grain and just aggrevating ppl.

Sorry about above, I'm a bit drunk and angry.

I know you're drunk and angry, but that's the last straw on here I'm afraid. It was dodgy enough when just talking about DITSU (when it's clear that nobody here knows what happened), but specifying taxi drivers ... I'm not going to stand over that.

    Thread closed.
