Did a complete reinstall of Win98(se). It did improve the speed of the system alot.

But the Windows still freezes occasionally eg. when using Outlook.

Any ideas how to get rid of this prob?

TBH theres a lot of things that could be causing it. Hardware or software. The fact that its doing it after a clean install of Windows98 might suggest its a hardware problem like bad memory or something like that. Then again if you have a large or corrupt mailbox in outlook that could also be causing it.

You need to describe in more detail what events or situations always cause the problem.

When you reinstall make sure its a clean install, e.g. Format & install.

Make sure u have all updates for windoze & Outlook, This should solve your problem.

    Thanks joePC

It's hard to get a mental picture of exactly what you mean.
Does the entire Windows GUI become locked up and completely unresponsive?
Is it just the application that freezes?
Are the "freezes" indefinite, (ie. you have to reboot), or do they last only a few seconds or less?
And as Ricardo asked, when does this usualy happen?

A blatant hunch here, but if you're getting strange lock-ups when you start medium to large programs, I'd have a look at your harddrive in device manager and make sure DMA is enabled for it... PIO mode can be a real cpu whore.
Doing this may require your motherboards chipset (including IDE) drivers to be installed, find out what motherboard chipset you have and track them down on the web... (usualy something like VIA, intel, nVidia etc.)
Chipset driver packages will generally cover a lot of ground hardware-wise and may sort out the problem even if it's not related to your IDE setup.
