what type of endorsement?

Any type of endorsement is likely to increase your insurance, how much can vary from company to company.

Endorsements stay for 3 years, but most insurance companies will persecute you for years afterwards.

As Kbannon said it depends on what it is for. Drink driving would cause problems for 10 years at least.
