Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Happy with Rooney, who won't be, I thought we had bought a donkey, but last nite, he played well and took his chances, very impressed. Give him 30 games and lets see what the return will be. he went into a few challenges a bit too agressive but he will hopefully lose that.
I thought the midfield was not good, Kleberson played well but he attacks more than defends, Djemba is a waste of space, O'sshea has played much better than him there.
Carroll did alright, he did what he was meant to, could not be held responsible for the goals.
Still we have to follow this up with a win against the Boro

I still dont think Carroll is as good as Howard. He made a couple of blocks last night but pushed the ball back into the centre of the box instead of pushing it wide to safety. We could easly have been punished if thes had fallen to attackers. He should also have narrowed the angles on one of the goals. If howard is not good enough then we need a keeper because carroll is no more than a steady no 2.

Great win though and the atmosphere around OT must have been something else . You picked a good night to be there.
I sure did pick a fab night. It was amazing. Can't remember if I put this in my earlier post but managed to catch Rooney's free kick on video - can't wait to hook the camera up to my computer when I finally get home from work! Sure was tough getting a flight from home...I mean Manchester back to Dublin and str8 to work this morn!

As for the Howard/Carroll thing it's slightly off topic? I agree that Howard is a better keeper, but not on current form. I think Roy is doing a better job. The amount of shouting he does is something Howard lacks, and we need that. We need a keeper at the back to be making that noise. As for pushing some of those back into the middle - he did, and I wasn't happy, but the difference is that he really smacks them out to the middle so they're not easy for onrushing attackers to..eh..attack and put home! Howard doesn't do that (look at Porto last year). Lyon the other week. I think Carroll deserves a shot for a while. But I'd prefer we signed another keeper. I don't think Howard is up to it in the long run anymore.

You totally misunderstood what he did there.
It was the middle of the goal so he wasn't able to push it wide safely,
so what he did was, you can watch his hands and his eyes, he punched it down to the ground to give himself time to get back up.

Howard doesnt do stuff like that.
He, at this moment in time, is better than Howard
Wow. Just quoted and replied to that thread from the muppet maself and now read yours. Spot on. Totally agree.

I think what John Toshack said last night was correct, there was a severe lack of communication in United's defence last night. Carroll needs to do more, and tell his defenders where he wants them. It was pretty obvious that there was a lack of communication with both of the goals. I think if Keane was playing it would have been a clean sheet as he is very good in the air and he always lets the players know their jobs.

I think the game last night has no bearing on United's champions league hopes. Alright we scored 6 goals, but the Fenerbahce defence was awful, and by that I mean 4 year olds could defend better. But you can only beat what is put in front of you and United looked sharp which is always a good thing.

With a full team out, I think that United can win the Champions League. Everyone has to be on the top of their game though.

to be honest Carroll was shouting at the defence constantly. Each time the ball went behind harmlessly if Fener had had even half a chance, rather than retrieve the ball he was moving to the edge of the area screaming at them. You can also see if the ball is in the air with a defender near it Carroll will give an extremely audible (so much so you can constantly hear him on tv coverage) shout to let the defender know what to do (clear, leave, hold etc). This is one part of his game I don't think he needs to improve.

imo Caroll is under-rated!!!! he's consistant, great shot stopper and really controls the box well, alot better than most of the keeepers had since Schmeichal (AKA the great one)

Man Utd need to sort out their defending soon or they wont win the Champions league.

Do man Utd need the likes of keane anymore?

i think youve answered your own question there, keane is utd's best shield for our defence and he wasnt playing last night. the defending was poor and must be looked at but really you cant take much from it as it was a 2nd string midfield bar giggs. there was no steel or experience needed in there to stamp out fernerbache attacks before they started.

as for rooney being the best prospect in the premiership, i think utd's other teenage sensation hangs onto that title. i cant wait to see ronaldo and rooney play together in the same side, ronaldo's flair and army of tricks mixed with the crisp finishing and movement of rooney will be a joy to watch.

the utd team at the moment at full strength is the sort of side neutrals would pay to watch. Oct 24th: utd-v-arsenal, if both play to their potential we'll see a cracker of a game. this game gets bigger and bigger every year.
