What about instead of using asterisks, replace the offending swear word with a less offensive and daft one? ;)
Kinda like the fun we used to have years ago running boards.ie through the pornolizer or the one that put dancing jesus all over the place :D
Only less extreme in this case.
I was just reading though a forum from a webgame I play, and and they appear to have replaced all the standard curses with "Smeg" and "Smeging"... it gets funnier the more I see it. (you'd have to be there and read these posts in context)

So I'm wondering what the admins think about this, and to the rest of yee... what words should be replaced with what.

I know there are a lot more important things on boards that need to be hax0rd around with first... but think of it as something to leave on the backburner to simmer gently.

I don't mean use "smeg"... it's wide open to suggestion.

How about a random word generator that would insert any word with the same number of letters instead of the cuss word. Would have to be flagged with a colour tag or something identifiable to keep some level of sanity to posts.

It really only effects the lazy and ignorant anyway, everyone else just alters their bold words to get around the filter.

Yeah, but don't you think they deserve to be made fun of by inserting daft words into their posts?

Take for example replacing the word "fúck" with "Sheep dip":
I met this really fit burd the other night, just wanted to **** her so badly.
    Becomes...
I met this really fit burd the other night, just wanted to Sheep dip her so badly.

Even replacing swears with smileys could be interesting.

Indeed I do. Making fun of the stupid is a time consuming task, getting a bot to automatically do it is a fantastic idea.

Yeah we all get Sheep Dipped by it sometimes and have to go back and edit our post or just leave the stars there :(
But tbh, the pro's and cons of the filter system being either ON or OFF have been discussed to death... from my recollection of those threads, the general consensus arrived at; was that it was a good thing, the main point being that if someone can't express themselves without using bad language, then they're probably talking a load of Sheep dip anyway.
The swear filter has been around for a good while now, and I can't see it going away any time soon... the amount of abusive muppets it catches out proves its worth.

Methinks it might get slightly confusing.

Hang on. I thought "Sheep dip" was code for "****"
