Irish Talent - why the exodus?

Its understandable why so many Irish writers, poets, actors and musicians are forced to sell their talent outside of Ireland. Despite the whole economic boom, Ireland remains an Island of squinting windows, bitching and incestuous backstabbing. Anyone stepping out of line or doing something a little different will always be promptly attacked - if not from the media, then from their kids.

Feeneys book is good, not wonderful but good. He deserves a little more credit and a little less 'personal' attack from Angel. Its a pity the moderator locked the last thread as I thought it was just getting interesting! :D

Pshaw. Writers are attacked in their homelands *everywhere*. Ireland's a lot less dangerous than many places (just finished Ken Saro-Wiwa's Sozaboy, for instance...)

Irish writers go abroad because while we have plenty of talent in terms of *writing*, we don't have a lot of business talent. So the publishers aren't here.

Any talented entrepreneurs out there? Start a publishing business specialising in Irish writers but marketing them abroad. Base its methods on Amazon.com.

(And don't rush in and say "Oh, look at the Celtic Tiger, we have lots of business talent here". I don't see developing a startup and then selling it to a foreign company to put money in your own pocket as business talent.)

Mr. lawlor, you are really trying my patience.

    1. the last thread turned into an argument after YOU made a personal attack.
    2. I suspect that Angel and Jack know one another, theirs is a PERSONAL argument and has no place on a PUBLIC forum. I also suspect that you yourself know Angel.
    3. All 4 of your posts so far ahve been in support of mr. feeney's book and to defend him from criticism. All 4. that to me is a bit suspect to start with.
    4. This thread has NOTHING to do with literature and is in fact a childish attempt to kick off the argument yet again.

    thread locked.

Temporary ban for LiamLawlor. Please PM any complaints or contact DeVore directly.
