    My PC spec

    NF4 ultra-D motherboard
    2x512 G-skill 400mhz memory
    7800gtx graphics card
    3500/939/64 cpu
    250gig Seagate harddrive
    120gig Seagate harddrive

What kind of results should I be getting in 3dmark 05

    I got 8437.

What do I need to up this. Stock cooling on graphics card, Arctic cooler on cpu.

Will post some scores later today, and recommendation on a psu?
I was thinking of either a Hiper 600Watt or else a Ocz power stream 500Watt plus?

Neither got a good review in the latest custom pc, and they did a fairly decent test on them. Seasonic came out top - and they have a 500w and 600w model

    My score is absolutly crap.......

    P4 - 3.4Ghz Prescott
    Nvidia 7800GTX
    Driver - 7.7.5.0

All on stock cooling for now if i decide to keep this lot or not -

Always loved ati cards and this is my first Nvidia not really impressed by it.

Followed combat Cows guide for Nvidia Gfx's.....

    Make me wanna cry :(

I had better scores with my 9800XT

Anybody care to share some wisdom on this?

By looking at the first ss, you have 4xAA switched on. This would definitely affect your score.

    AMD X2 4800+ (@216Mhz) 2592Mhz
    MSI K8N Diamond
    BFG 7800GTX OC (490/1300)

    3DMARK05 = 8706

Well, sorta got my new build stable, in that it's all back to normal settings  and hasn't crashed in a while. Anyone thinking of getting a DFI RDX200 crossfire board; don't! At least not yet anyway, it needs some serious bios fixes. Anyhows.... 3dmarked it today with x1800xl. No tweaks whatsoever and it scored a reasonable 7239.

First run, just got it up and running, everything at stock and with stock cooling on both GFX and CPU

okay this is really wrecking my head.
installed the X1800XT yesterday and I am getting worse scores than I had with the X800XL.
    got 6500 on default.

PSU is fine, have a phantom 500, and an Xfi Fatality, WD Raptor, Seagate HDD, and two DVD drives connected, so should have tons of breathing space.

playing games doesn't seem to be an issues. FEAR with everything turned to max runs with 50 fps average.

I completely removed the Catalyst drivers, and after a reboot installed the latest catalyst with CCC, as required for the X1x00 family cards.

    any ideas?

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,762 ✭✭✭WizZard

Did you use DriverCleaner to remove the drivers?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,239 ✭✭✭Gilgamesh

I used the ATI removal tool

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,005 ✭✭✭CivilServant

50fps doesn't mean much unless you tell us the settings.

50fps doesn't mean much unless you tell us the settings.

    okay then,

    1280x960 res
    SS 3.0
    16x Aniso
    6x AA
    FSAA active
    soft shadows on,
and just about every single setting possible either on or set to maximum
Also have EAX advanced HD active

    better?

    ;)

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,005 ✭✭✭CivilServant

Hehe now we're getting somewhere :)

6xAA even at 1280x960 staying in the 50fps region is damn impressive. So what proc do you have? Intels are known to be bad performers gaming wise and dual core intel chips do terrible in 3mark.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,239 ✭✭✭Gilgamesh

    I have a Pentium D 840.
the issue isn't by the proc though, as I was getting better scores with my older X800XL, I am going to try the drivercleaner tool what Wizzard suggested.

I wanted to put XP64 on my rig anyway, but couldn't due to the wifi card not having driver support for it though.
because of the size of the X1800XT I had to remove the wifi card now anyway ,so that solves that problem :)
and your not trying to tell me that there is a 2500 point drop between Intel and AMD in 3DMark05, I hope

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,005 ✭✭✭CivilServant

Well there definitely is a difference not a 2500 point drop but a substancial one. I read that on the interweb somewhere can't find the link now, that stock X1800XT gets ~7k with D840. Anyways yeah you should try the drivercleaner tool, see what you get.

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,405 ✭✭✭gizmo

Hrm, Soft Shadows will kill your preformance in FEAR and in my opinion anyway, the effect isnt that impressive, so kick that off to get your FPS up...

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,239 ✭✭✭Gilgamesh

I am not worried with the fps, I just seem to have a driver issue.
FEAR is running fine with softshadows on, I mean, come on, who needs more than 50fps really?

didn't get around to doing anything last night but will do by the weekend.
    thanks for the input guys

Latest scores with H2O on cpu and stock cooling on X1800XT

    3D_mark_9927.sized.jpg

    Full pic here

    Work log here

Cooling the cpu hasn't made much of a difference to 05 as expected. I'm having trouble with any HTT over 232 with this board. It's not the ram and the chip can do better than this, I think the board needs a few bios updates. On the other hand this card is crying out for H2O cooling so I should hit 10k easy once I install it tomorrow.

Enough work time for some beer :)

    Edit: Updated score

Edit: Updated score again, surely this is one of the highest single card scores?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,239 ✭✭✭Gilgamesh

ran the drivercleaner utility from ATI and removed all the Driver folders, stuck the 5.12 Catalysts on and now am getting somehwere over 7800, which I can live with.

I'm sure with a reinstall of the system I woudl get over the 8k mark, but I prefer having the 'real' score, with everything that has to run, on.

    thanks for the help guys
