Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

CH4 & ITV in IRELAND

    Help!

I am sick and tired of getting different answers from Sky in relation to
receiving UTV and Channel 4 in Ireland.

A friend of mine was telephoned yesterday by Sky offering him their package
as a new customer. He specifically asked if it would receive UTV and
Channel 4 and was told emphatically 'yes'.

This prompted me to telephone Sky myself (again) this morning to ask the
    same question.

The first operator told me that UTV was not available but that Channel 4 was but was unable to give me the channel number when asked!!

The second operator told me that I could add both of these channels through
the Add Channel feature but was unable to give me the relevant figures.

Some time ago I had heard that the reason for not getting UTV was that TV3
had blocked same (as they did not want to lose Coronation Street
    customers!!)

Can anyone advise the up-to-date situation regarding the above?

    Many thanks.

    David

Its a rights issue it has been going on for a number of years and it does not look like it will end any time soon.

    what confuses me though
is that E4 is on it
    why not channel 4 ?

And E4 has Irish ads too..

Yes, always a curious one that. But it can be answered in that E4 is a subscription channel and extra revenue can be gained by Channel 4 from Sky as its part of the family pack and if people watch E4 in suffient numbers.

Channel 4, as an FTV channel, would not.

Yes, but again, C4 would most likely be a subscription channel in ROI, just like BBC was before it went FTA. I would have thought C4 have less to worry about than ITV but maybe they're just not interested, or maybe they're guaging the success of E4 advertising in ROI first?

    Very interesting Michael

What happens the rights issue then? TV3 would'nt be too happy

the rights issues become non-existent as the irish government made a lot of noise abbout the bbc going fta and how they would be not happy and would have to do something about it.. I think they call it overspill and there is nothing legally tv3 could do about it because the main tranmission is for the uk and any overspill is not intended ;)

Could see them running into problems as regards the Champions League and F1.

I also remember David Murphy writing an excellent article in the indo where an industry source predicted massive job losses if BBC went FTA. Of course this never came to pass

Oh that would be so good! But I have a feeling the CL is on ITV2 isn't it?

I'll believe when I see anyway. When we got Sky in 2002 we were told that ITV would be out later that year. Still waiting.

Lets keep the fingers crossed eh! Would be great, as long as they keep showing CL games on it of course. Lets hope it happens sometime in the near future, I seem to remember November being mentioned somewhere in the forum I think.
