Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Junk Mail - How to stop it

Getting really fed up with the amount of Junk Mail, flyers etc we get through the letterbox. Have resorted to putting up a "No Junk Mail" sticker but it has had no effect. Is there anything that can be done?
Was thinking of taking the daily pile and putting it an envelope and sending it to one of that days senders(no stamp of course).

they usually have a freepost reply adr meaning that they have to pay for the delivery so attach a brick to your mail!
It may not stop them but it'll cost them a packet!

that's a great idea. you might want to attach a note saying that every time they send you an unsolicited mail you'll send them an unsolicited brick. ;)

attach a pic of a big pile of bricks (from your nearest builders merchants/building site [they won't know the difference from a close up]) just to let them know you have a good supply.

i'm sure they'd get the message eventually.

    Get Gmail.

If you can't do that, another system to try is the '+'. Doesn't work for all mail sites though. Also you need to be to put a filtering system onto your mail (again gmail does this but some other clients do too).

For example, lets say you register with boards, your email is...

    name@site.com

So for boards you put in...

    name+boardsie@site.com

Now if you get spammed you can trace where the address came from. Now some spammers may cop onto this and remove everything after the "+" so for your friends you just give them an address like.

    name+thiername@site.com

And set your filter to allow their stuff through. Won't stop you getting spammed but allows you to filter out the crap and also see where possible spam is coming from.

    ..... [edit]
Doh didn't see letter box mentioned. :) Use the Maddox system to deal with it. Basically any free coupons/deals you get you put into the freepost envelope of another junk mail and the reverse. Make sure there is nothing that mentions your name and you help the system.

    I like this brick idea.

I'd recommend changing the "junk mail" sign to "no leaflets" though, what you consider junk is subjective.

Or send something you would have to pay to get rid of like an old fridge or sofa, don't know the limit an post will take. Bricks cost money, a box with a turd in it is free

Remember though that it's still average joe opening the box on the other side. It's not going to land on Mr. Managing Director's desk and make him change the policy, it's going to land on some poor sap's lap and ruin his whole day.

A box full of dirt would do just as well. Heavier than a brick too.
