    Hi all,

I just stumbled across this forum this morning and have been reading with interest. I have been playing online for play money for the past two or three years but I have never had the opportunity to play for real money. I was just wondering if anyone had a few tips for what would be a good way to start off playing for real money.

    Thanks a lot

If it's limit you want to play, sign up at Pokerstars and play the .01/.02 games and up, they also have a pretty small no-limit buy-in game, I think. Partypoker is far looser but the smallest game there is .5/1 - if you're signing up at Party PM me and I can refer you, it means a free $25 for you and a free $50 for me :)

    Are you living in/near Dublin?
Both the Merrion and Fitzwilliam card clubs have cheap tournaments. Sunday in the Merrion (i think) and Sunday evenings 6pm and thursdays 9pm in the Fitz. €10 rebuys so the max you might spend would be €40. Usually plenty of inexperienced players there, very n00b friendly and forgiving of mistakes.
The Fitz is also having 1 table tournaments (Sit and Gos) for €10. 10 people sit down, 1st place takes €60, 2nd gets €30 and a tenner goes to the house. They are probably the best way to learn the ins and outs or casino poker.

Check the stickies and other beginner type threads in the poker forum.

I'm already registered with Party Poker TwoShedsJackson but I want to get into playing real no limit tournaments. I live in Dublin so I think I will try one of the 1 table tournaments in the Fitzwilliam. Thanks for your help.

are those €10 STTs on every evening in the Fitz? What time do they start at?

Depending on if there are enough people interested in playing they can be on every night. Most usually they're on from 5pm on a thursday/friday/sat/sun evening.
If Luke (Poker room boss) is around and you tell him you'd like to play a SNG then he'll start shouting at people until they join in. Danielle or Sharon will do likewise albeit more quietly.

I wouldn't worry about having never been to a card game before. My first ever "real" game of Poker was last Saturday at the Fitz. Before this I was stricktly on-line for fun. A more understanding bunch you will not meet. Everyone was friendly and quite willing to put up with my newbieness. I played 3 sitand goes and in the freeroll. I even won one of my sit and goes.

Off to the monthly 50-in in Claregalway tonight.....
