i dunno if this was specifically discussed elsewhere...

story in the examiner the other day about gardai wanting nightclubs to pay for guard to police the streets at night?

this shutting nightclubs early story was more about gardai resources then drink culture....

i know that that as pointed out you can hire guards to do film sets, football matches, bank money, someone said shopping malls?

in a way it makes sense if they do all thigns things already but where is the line that dictates whether gardai are already paid by the state to protect and serve and where is the one has to start paying guards every time you need em?

Its been that way with Premiership matches for years in the UK, the Police won't allow you to play a match without their presence, however, you have to pay for the privelidge of their attendance.

Clubs have been fighting this for the past 20 years to no effect.

Poor petals... are they not getting nixers as bouncers any more then? Wasn’t all that long ago that every second bouncer in Dublin was a Gardai doing a nixer. Perhaps they’re just trying to remind the local club owners that Christmas is round the corner and they’re expecting a few cases of booze to be sent down to the station...

This is the sort of behaviour that only enforces the view that we are a bloody Thrid world when it comes to our civil servants.

Not only that under the proposed Criminal Justice Bill 2004 will Gardai be allowed charge on the stop fines as they choose in the miscellanious section of the bill. But now they are trying to make businesses and ultamitely the public pay for policing at night when it is most needed.
Lets not forget that there is the exact same number of Gardi on the streets on a monday night as there is on a Friday or Saturday when they are most needed...

Lets just employ the Provos and disenfanchise the Gardai as they are bloody crap as is
