I would just like to thank you for the work you put into your site,I am new to playing poker and just found your site and its just what I was looking for. As you say on your site most sites are for people who are playing a long time.

So again thank you and keep up the good work,us Novices need somewhere to learn.

From reading other posts about how many people were at a tournament or not I think some people take you lot for granted, thats the way I see it dont let them get you down as I am sure most people are very grateful for the work you lot put in.

I am looking forward to playing in one of your tournaments when I have more experience, and I will for one will be grateful.I think you do a great job.

Dub, any time you want a friendly game for cheap let me know and I'll hook up with you before some SNG action for a pint. SNG's are the best way of getting into the game, that or the new Saturday freeroll in the Fitz as its nice and quiet and they run over the casino rules beforehand if you need a quick tutorial (playing in a casino is intimidating the first time but one *hell* of a rush hahha).

I wouldnt wait for experience before playing. None of us did!
I had a pint with Kevin O'Connell from LNP (seriously successful pro) and he said one thing that really hit home. I was remarking that he's very very consistent (possibly the most consistent pro out there by my reckoning, check his record) and he said:
"I've made a lot of good calls in my time, thats experience. A lot of that comes from making bad calls!"
There simply no substitute for playing...

I may take you up on that offer sometime DeV.I do want to get started as soon as I can.....I am only 25 so loads of time to learn. The thing that pisses me off is I only learned to play over the summer just gone, beforeI could play I wasted a few good opportunities...such as last May I was on a cruise around the Caribbean and on the boat they had a HUGE casino....I have also been to Atlantic City all without ever playing. If I was only hooked on Hold'em back then...

Anyone remember the old-skool cash games we used to have, where everyone was hammered and played like Iago used to?
They were great, we should arrange an evening of accelerated boozing and poker, keep it cheap €10 SNG's or €10 multitable thingies. Just to get pissed and talk crap and play some (bad) poker...

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,838 ✭✭✭DapperGent

    I remember when Iago was +EV. :(

I remember when poker revolved around drunken abuse. :(

I was young and foolish. I thought those days would last forever.

    .

I have a few questions if you dont mind....

    1) How long does a SNG game go on for...?also what time are they on at or is it just a case of play when the numbers are there.

2)Are all casino games played with a dealer or do you deal yourself in turns...?

3)I have not got a clue what a freeroll is...?

Sorry to be a pain, ;)

    1. SNGs tend to last on or around an hour and they will squeeze in as many as possible until 9 when the main tourney starts. They will start as soon as they 8-10 players.

    2. On some occassions the table has to deal for themselves. Freerolls for example. Big tourneys will normally have a dealer.

    3. A freeroll is a free to enter tournament. Often with cash rebuys beyond that which contribute to the prize (primarily tickets to larger tournaments).

Usually no longer than an hour, although that depends of course on how far you get.

Most of the regular tournament are played with a dealer. SNG's may or may not have a dealer, usually they will. Freerolls don't have dealers but sometimes you get some poor mug who is willing to deal to the table out of the goodness of his heart, just to keep things moving quickly.

Its the entry level tournament where most people learn how to play casino-style.
Its free to enter, you get some chips to start with, if you lose those chips you pay €10 to get more. You can rebuy like this for the first hour or so, then rebuys stop and you play with whatever you have in front of you.

The standard of poker is questionable, but its cheap and fairly laid back, no pressure.

Thanks Lads.....All this info you have to take in when you are starting out.

At this stage I think I will start with the SNG,how much are they to enter...?

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,638 ✭✭✭Iago

€10 with 1st getting €65 and 2nd getting €35 the other €10 goes to the club.

There's a freeroll in the fitz tonight that should give you a chance to experience live play if you're around..

    Freerolls times are:

    Fitz:
Thursday 9:00 except the last thursday of the month when its on at 6:00 to ensure its over by the time the big game starts at 9. Prizes are tickets for the 270 game on the last thursday of the month.

Saturday: 4:00pm, a new tournie which Luke is supporting strongly at the moment. Its for a ticket to the 100 game on Monday night

Sunday 6:30 pm: Ticket for the big game at the end of the month .

    Merrion:
Monday night, 9:00pm. Ticket to the 100 game on Tuesday.
I think they have another one but I dont know the details... anyone else know?

    DeV.

Might want to check that as it started at 6 last week. Might be because our tourney was on but 4 might be too early to expect players in.
