How much does this cost for the side and back windows? It would be on a Ford Escort.
Also does anyone know a place near Maynooth that does it?

    Cheers.

There was that place opposite (what was) the mill, beside the furniture store by the river.

Isn't window tinting illegal per say in Ireland? Just wonderin'...

Window tinting isn’t illegal in Ireland…..in fact it’s the exact opposite…there is no current legislation governing tint levels in the south….HOWEVER…published evidence has stated that any tint which reduces the level of visibility to below 25% IS CONSIDERED DANGEROUS, this has been used in presenting evidence in the event of a road accident to insurance companies & prosecution services and cases of dangerous driving. Simply put if you can’t see safely out the side windows then how do you if it's safe to pull out (or in front off)!!!!!!!!

I got my car tinted at pentagon glass tech in Dublin (620 5788)…very good job, exceptionally high quality finish and their used to working on expensive cars, bit pricey but well worth it particularly if you like your car and no I’m not one of them I just think credit is due for a good job (and I now know to watch out for dark tints in future), They where also the guys smashing the living crap out of the windows of a car at the motor show in the rds this year.

They didn’t cut any of my door seals and they supply a life time warranty on all their installations and the film is scratch resistant. over a year on and still as good as the first day.

They won’t install two tints tho…(back to previous point).

If any one is involved in an accident and the car has tinted windows then get the Gardai to note the tint level on the drivers’ and front passenger windows if it’s below 25% put it to your insurance company that you think the tint was excessively dark and may have impeded the driver’s vision.

For the Purpose of NCT's the front pass windows should be 20 tint or medium, if it is 25 limo black you will fail the NCT.

Rear windows can then be 25 as for night driving they are fine, if you have 25 night driving is extremely dangerous.

On the front window you can have a sun strip of 6". but only at 20.

I would recommend these guys, I used them a got a gurantee, they are A1 and professional not some cow boy they cost me €250 but well worth it.

For the extra dosh I would use these guys.

I've used these guys a few times before and would highly recommend them. Excellent job and good value.

@StRiKeR: This travelling window tinter, does he fit the tint out in the open or does he take the car to a garage/indoors? I thought to do the job properly, you need to be indoors with no dust/wind etc. I know a few people that have made a mess of DIY tint jobs because of this.

Really I'd like to know where the info comes from. AFAIK most Gardai follow the English laws on tinting ?? Which is bout 20/25% on front-side windows and whatever you want (right to total blackout) on the rear-side/rear ones.

I'm prolly wrong though. I've been stopped by Gardai at tax/insurance checks and they never mention the fact that I have total blackout on the back windows - they're generally more concerned with my plates now being illegal (black b/g w/silver lettering)

The law in UK has changed recently, now you cannot have ANY tint on the driver/passenger windows...and I'm not certain, but I think there is a limit to the tint on rear windows too.

So what happens if you bring your tinted car(bar windscreen) up north then, an offence ? :)

    Here y'are...

It seems that, although it was made law, some loopholes and 'grey areas' may still exist according to these articles. I have a few friends in England who have said that people have been pulled for having a light/medium tint in the front windows.

I've always wondered why anyone would want to tint their windows??

Personally, when I drive past some young 'wans' I want them to see who is driving. Otherwise whats the point in me driving a 'penis extension'.

    :D:D

Among other things, it blocks the heat from the sun so you will have a nice 'cool' car all year round :)

Hmm, some wimmin own tinted cars...makes you wonder then :)
