Moriarty . I counted all the entries on the AD in the paper ...the AD I told you about at the time kinda one :) .........and found 223 entries + or - 1

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,007 ✭✭✭Moriarty

I have the ad in front of me :) They included a number of exchanges twice in the lists (those highlighted in orange). There's only 201 unique exchanges listed there.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,143 ✭✭✭spongebob

201 exchanges it is then :) The AD had Carna and Kilcar which are tiny villages in the Udarás program.

As the country has roughly 1100 exchanges in total the program will therefore enable about 18.3% of exchanges.

No, no no, take that one out. No DSL in Moate yet AFAIk (though Esat are listed as a supplier on the broadband.gov site).

Can you be more specific, or even do a bit of playing with the graphics on the photoshop file I've made available?

I was thinking that if they were transparent, you would be able to see the underlying map..

Dunmore East in County Waterford will be DSL enabled by March 2005 according to the availability checker on eircom's site.

Missing places added, and some more transparency, and some different colours.

To finish Connacht and Ulster add that circle NE of Salthill in Galway City .

    Clare (done)
    Westmeath (done)
    Longford (done)
    Wexford (done)

    Carlow

    Add Bagenalstown (aka Muine Bheag)
    Add Tullow

    Kerry

    Add Castleisland

Thats the west coast done as well and the four corners of Ireland :)

Volunteers for rest of Munster and the s. Midlands and The East Coast and for Dublin please and lets finish and sticky it. Once Eircom generously increase their limits to 5km its a quick edit of one photoshop layer ,

We've put the geographical dsl coverage map online on the latest www.comwreck.com blog.
Direct link to the article is here

"Our" assumption about the validity of a geographical coverage map was strengthened by Esat/BT boss Bill Murphy's talk on Newstalk, where he spoke about population and geographical coverage in NI.

Thanks again for all the help with the map.

I've put the original photoshop file of the map onto the server. You can download it and have fun, trying out different colours, adding in all the other dsl enabled exchanges.
For showing I'd propose to save the file "save for web" as a good quality jpg, sized 700 pixels wide.
If you've any questions mail me: info(at)eircomtribunal.com

    P.

The 5 Mb file is here:
    http://www.comwreck.com/downloads/dsl_coverage_map_v2.psd

(Safari users will have to control-click and choose "Download linked file as", because Safari falsely thinks it can display the file)

Anyone care to help creating an updated version of this coverage map.

Normally I can open Photoshop files. But my PSP7 claims undefined error.

Can someone else open it and export it as something else or is it broken?

Thanks for doing the map update.
The map on the server was indeed corrupted, it's been replaced by a good one just now.
If you know your photoshop, you should have no problems updating the map with the new places. For photoshop newbies, here's how it's done:
Start by zooming in to 100% for more precision. In the layers palette select the layer called "75 per cent" and use the Path Selection Tool (shortcut: A, the black arrow, not white; if it's white, hold it down in the tools palette untill you get a little pop up and select the black one) to select one of the existing blue spots. Hold the Alt (aka Opt) key while dragging a blue circle to duplicate it. Then drag it to the desired place.
Hold down space to get to the hand tool in order to scroll without switching tools manually.

In addition to the newly launched ones I posted an hour ago the rest of the DSL enabled exchanges are probably all on this list which comprises

Existing Map + Exchanges launched in 2005

    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=303312

The current program of exchange upgrades is way behind, I would not put exchanges on the map till they are live given all the slippage .

Thanks for doing the map update.
Whoever is going to do it, as it is quite a list to go through and many of the smaller places might not be named on the map (?), I'd suggest that you talk about who's committing to it, so that the work is not unnecessarily done in multiples.
If you've any questions, just mail me.

I'm using Paint Shop Pro7. I have opened Photoshop images before:
    PSD Photoshop (RGB or Indexed) 1-bit, 8-bit colour, 24-bit 1-bit, 8-bit colour, 24-bit

    Jasc Software, Inc.

    Also
You can save images that contain raster and adjustment layers in either the PSP format or the PSD format of PhotoShop. Both formats retain all the layer information for these two types of layers. However, images containing vector layers must be saved in the PSP format to retain the vector information. When you save an image with vector layers in the PSD format, the vector layers are converted to raster layers.

    Jasc Software, Inc.

Oh well I guess I'll wait. Perhaps when updated it could be saved in several formats?

Photoshop can't seem to save in PSP format. (the file is in 8-bit, RGB colour mode) If the vectors rasterise automatically when you open it in PSP, do they retain their transparency? I could convert them to raster layers myself if that helps. Or, I could send you a flattened .tiff and you could just mimic the blue circles-- but they do need to be transparent so you can still see the map through the circle. I've never worked with PSP so I don't know if that is supported.

Ah.. I can open Photoshop RASTER files, but not Photoshop VECTOR files, not with PSP7. Maybe with something else though.

No I can open Photoshop files with up to 20 layers and transparency too. But only in raster format.
