To obtain a masters, is it usually a year or two years on top of your degree?

To those of you who have completed a masters, have you gained a lot more than you would have, had you 'just' finished the Degree?

    Was it worth it?

Are masters just for academics who wish to lecture?

How much harder is it than a Degree course?

Does the course/Masters you apply for have to correspond directly with your BA?

A Masters takes about a year for a taught course and 2-3 for an MSc by research.
Generally, academics who wish to lecture do PhDs (a PhD is basicly what you do if you want to do research - there's little other purpose to it). The MSc tends to be harder than your degree, and more specialised, but there's more leeway in what you choose to do. Doing an Arts MSc after an Engineering BAI might be too much, mind, but doing an Engineering MAI after a Science BSc wouldn't be, for example.
