Star Trek Actors in other movies and is it worth it?

Yes, I must say once you´re related to Star Trek it must be hard to make a career afterwards.

Sisko and Geordi played together in "Roots" and I liked that a lot but Alexander Siddig and the Borg Queen in "Reign of fire" was a waste. And everytime I see Shatner doing a comedy its only annoying.

Patrick Stewart is one of a kind: He seems to be brilliant whatever he does, be it in that movie with Mel Gibson or as Charles Xavier in the "X-Men" movies.

But then, he had a career way before Star Trek. I liked him in DUNE

The "Gueststars" don´t seem to be fe effected at all. The one who played in Star Trek II, whats her name again, made it. I thought she was funny in "Look who´s talking" and Kim Catrall is huge as well.

But perhaps with the exception of Colm Meaney no one really has major roles out of Star Trek.

Brent Spiner was cool in ID4 but I have never seen Sisko, Crusher, Spock or so in a bigger production outside of Star Trek.

What do u think? Did I just miss all their other movies or am I right ?? ...

Avery Brooks (Sisko) was in American History X. Very good in it too, I thought. Jennifer Lien (Kes) also had a supporting role in the same movie.

Leonard nimoy had a very good film career before star trek and then a directing career because of it

So you can break the typecast

And we can't forget "The Ballad of Bilbo Baggins"... No matter how hard we try...

Brent Spiner has always done well. He'll always be "the guy who played Data", but he's a great actor, and although you think "Oh look, it's Brent Spiner", you don't spend the rest of the movie thinking you're watching Brent Spiner playing Data playing someone else.

Brent Spiner was in Independence day, I think? One of the scientists. He also guest stared in an episode of Friends. (Though that's not a a major carrer point)

Kate Mulgrew was in a few episodes of Cheers.

Jeri Ryan is in some other show, is she not?

And I saw Terry Farrell in some TV movie or other.

That's all I got, for the moment.

Voice of Galvatron in Transformers: The Movie.

Brent Spiner has had a very interesting career actually. Voice of Conan O'Brien in the South Park movie. Also in Dude Wheres My Car?

Michael Dorn did the voice of the beast in Beauty and the Beast.

William Shatner was TJ hooker, and also had an appearance in Airplant II.

Jeri Ryan was in Melrose Place before voyager if I am not mistaken.

Patrick Stewart was in X-men and was also in a film about terrorists called "death Train"

others that I can remember being in those Odesey true story films were Robert Picardo Will Wheaton and Gates MacFadden.

Actually I've seen Robert Picardo in a few things. None of which I can rememer. Expect one episode of the Outer Limits.

Use http://www.imdb.com to look up your favourite actors and see what else they did (including bit parts in TV shows).

Right this is the ones I know.

D'forrest Kelly was in some western film.
William Shatner was in American Psycho 2 and Miss Congeniality
Brent Spinner was in ID4 and Phenomenan
Will Wheaton was in Stand by Me.
Marina Sirtis was in Terminal Error
Walter Keonig, James Doohan and George Takei were in Bug Buster.
Patrick Steward was the voice of the Pharoh Seti first in The Prince of Egypt, he also had a small appearance in the end of Robin Hood Men in Tights as King Richard.

Thats Me for the Minute. Anymore come to mind and i'll let you know

Done without the help of IMDB by the way

Isnt Quark on Buffy now? Or is that a re-run?

Stewart is ahead in any way. He is in plenty of movies and always great. But I would love to see him play a complete weirdo, with a pumpgun or something totally unexpected.

And in the end the policeman says: "**** the law, I am going to kill you now" and Stewart says: "Make it so".

    Or perhaps not :)

whats her name again, made it. I thought she was funny in "Look who´s talking"

Kirsty Alley is her name and I'd imagine she'll be remembered more for her role in 'Cheers' rather than StarTrek2 or the LookWho'sNotLaughing series.

But to answer your question: No I don't think you missed all their other movies.

I reckon the only Trek actor today who could pulldown a $5m+ per movie deal is our old friend Mr.Stewart.

And that's not to say that Trek 'ruined' the chances of all the other actors who have starred in it down thru the years. It's just to say that they were never very good actors to begin with (Avery Brooks being an exception).

Jesus, forgot about Quark, yea. He was the Principal in Buffy for the first few series (until he got eaten or whatever...)

  • Registered Users Posts: 24,924 ✭✭✭✭BuffyBot

Isnt Quark on Buffy now? Or is that a re-run?

It's a re-run. Armin Shimmerman was playing Snyder on Buffy at the same time as he was playing Quark on DS9.

Robert Picardo(with a full head of hair!) was in Gremlins 2 i think

...and saw Ezri Dax in Cube the other day.

    William Shatner was also in:

Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story (2004)
    Loaded Weapon 1 (1993)

I'm almost certain I saw Robert Picardo in an episode of M*A*S*H but it doesn't list it on IMDB. He seems to have had a fairly successful career from the mid 70's onwards. He's making regular appearances on a show called the Lyon's Den, it's on NET2 @ 12:25am on Thursday nights if anyone's interested.

Haha, the site also says that he voiced the JohnnyCab in Total Recall!
