    Uh, yeah, that's a typical register article, in that it's complete nonsense, written by one of Google's competitors.

    The Register is the Linix equivalent of the Microsoft "Get the Facts" campaign.

    Its great for telling you all about the wonders of Linux, frequently amusing in how they get it wrong and it mostly operates independently of reality. :p

    And that's just the opinion of a competitor. It's fairly easy to know if a prog is sending info back, and if you have a good software firewall you can prevent the prog from accessing the internet.

    Note: the XPSP2 firewall does not block Outgoing traffic.
