    How long does it take to clear a cheque? My friend lodged a cheque for 10k to PTSB on friday. They claim it takes 5 days to clear it. Its a BOI cheque from a very reputable building firm well known. Is this normal or are PTSB taking the p*ss?

    Now he wrote me a cheque today. If i lodge it before the original cheque has gone thru the hoops will my cheque bounce? I also bank with PTSB also. I assume my cheque will also go thru the 5 day hoops?

    BTW when he lodged the 10k it was showing in his balance but not available.

    Any advice on how to proceed?

    5 days, unless it's the branch it is drawn on (it's adifferent bank though).
