*Broadband update* Digiweb expands wireless broadband

    Extract from PC Live Mag:

Digiweb has expanded its business into the south east with the extension of its wireless broadband network to Waterford city and county.

The company's broadband services do not rely on the existing copper phone line infrastructure controlled by Eircom; instead, it is a radio-based network that establishes broadband connections over the air.

The new services were launched by Mr. Dermot Ahern TD, Minister for Communications Marine and Natural Resources and Cllr Seamus Ryan, Mayor of Waterford. The mayor welcomed the new service, claiming that it would attract further investment to the county and enhance the competitiveness of local business in the global marketplace.

According to Digiweb, the service extends broadband each four times further than that of ADSL, which is good news for those too far away from their local exchange to take advantage of the high speed internet connection.

At the launch over 1,000 balloons were released, each with a unique ticket attached. The first 25 tickets to be returned will win free wireless broadband for a year; the next 125 will get a free broadband connection.

Digiweb has also recently launched services in Cork, and has been established in Louth, Meath and Cavan for a while. Kilkenny, Portlaoise, Dublin, Carlow, Wexford, Monaghan, Sligo and Donegal are all on the list for services with a number of months.
