PM 'agrees to host US missiles'

American interceptor missiles are to be stationed on British soil after Tony Blair agreed a secret deal with the United States, it has been reported.

The Independent on Sunday says Downing Street has agreed in principle to a Pentagon request to base missiles at RAF Fylingdales in North Yorkshire.

The weapons would allow the US to destroy incoming missiles and form part of the Son of Star Wars defence system.

But a Ministry of Defence spokesman said no decision had yet been made.

    'Deal' in May

Work has already started on a £449m project to upgrade RAF Fylingdales to make it part of the US anti-missile defence programme.

    (snip)

What do you bet some of these will be put in the North?

This is the missile defense shield. The whole thing is a joke. Basically the missile defense system if it does work will only ever protect the US. It would be incapable of protecting the UK and makes the UK a nice target if the unthinkable was to ever happen.

What's the big deal? The UK have been hosting US missles for decades. So, what's al this fuss about?

And there's a very good reason why missles won't be posted up north. Have three guesses.

From what news I have heard the UK government are denying it.
