Backing up PS2 Games

Have never tried to back up my PS2 games before so I'm a complete newbie at this. Just a question.. Is it possible to load backed up CDRs without a MOD chip? I've heard something about a "swap" method but any info I googled was kind of vague.. oh and I'm also lazy... Help appreciated, thanks ;)
