    Hello people:

was just wondering, what martial art does everyone here train in?

as in what have you trained in?

what do u train in now?

    and where and when?

i'm asking to get an idea of what kind of places are around..

I'm trying to start some aikido classes somewhere at the moment but i'm not gettin any replies to any emails for Whitefriar Aikido Dojo.. are there many places around.. not just for aikido but in general.. bushido, kenpo, kung fu, Bujutsu etc etc etc

    Hey Dan,

What happened to your plan to train in Harolds X? Or are you looking for extra classes?

    Peace Out,
    Colm

speaking of the ol thai, where the warriors of old developed it into the hardest of ring sports and today people all over the world are still amazed at it simplicity and effectiveness....

the place to train in Dublin ishere . there are 2 classes one for beginners and one for fighters, the fighters class can be tough and if you want to train hard you will go home sore, but if you want to take it easy the lads will go easy...

Our policy is better to get the knocks in the gym and be used to them so that when you fight it wont be a shock to you.... there are about 30 fellas and 8 women training in the fighters class at the moment, and I have to say we are one of the busiest gyms in Ireland wrt to "ring sport fighting"

Traingin most night a week, run skip, shadow box, hit bag, pads, sparring, grappling, skip and go home :)

ps rumour has it there might be a new thai boxing gym opening soon.... :p

i dunno,, i guess i wanna do somethin a little bit more traditional to start off with, i don't know why, maybe i wanna satisfy the little kid inside me that used to watch all those karate movies when he was younger.. But i'll definitely keep it in mind tho, thanks..

I'll probably go to the classes in pearse street on the thursdays and fridays, and maybe belgard on fri night if i like it a lot..

Whats aikido like? i have my own opinions about it but i'm no expert, what kind of benefits will it have? and is it hard to 'master'(not literally) ;)

    lots of rules.
probly its only bad point. an ya gotta bow and pray an kneel in awkard positions in front of pictures of the founder...but other than that its brilliant.

have you done it,, is it hard to pick up.. i'm excited about goin, can't wait.. how effective would it be in a tricky situation in the 'outside world'?

    It's not I'm afraid.

If you want effectiveness there's a limited number of ma's that time and time again prove themselves effective.

If you want effective self defence, train in them. If you're interested in the aesthetic beautry of TMA's train in them.

it'll be fairly useless to ya for a long time but some locks and throws can be used effectively if ya practice. (lots of practice.)

get into bjj or muay thai if ya want real effectivness quuickly...
