Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Slieve League at this time of year

    Folks,

    I have notions of taking a hike up Slieve League this coming weekend. Am I mad? Specifically, is the visibility, wind or ground wetness likely to make it far too dangerous to be that near the steep edges involved? I've already reached the conclusion that snow or very high winds are a no-no, but that somewhat murky visibility should still be doable.

    As an aside, if I do go and the conditions prove too poor, can anyone suggest a good plan B in the area?

    High winds could be a problem as some parts are exposed. But pretty much all of it (including the "One Mans Pass") can be done from a more sheltered landward position. A lot of it is boggy/soft though. So it may not be pleasant in wet weather

    Well, I chanced my arm yesterday and went up anyway. I'm glad I did. The weather was excellent. There were about three three-minute intervals of rain the whole day and the cloud cover lifted pretty early in the day. It was no more boggy than anywhere in Wicklow I can think of and the wind was so low that you could have played badminton at the summit.

    It's a seriously fun climb, though, with some stunning views. We walked from the Bunglas car park over one man's pass, to the summit of Slieve League. We went over the other side and followed the coast to end the walk at Trabane car park.
