Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

They showed Arsenal vs Villa last weekend, and only show matches every two weeks (I think, it's def not more often than this). ManU/Arsenal is on Sky on Sunday, and they're showing Liverpool vs Charlton on Saturday, 5.15 ko.

what kind of deal do RTE have ? Strange that they show matches every 2 weeks and not every week. Still good to see it :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,746 ✭✭✭Drag00n79

The deal is that they can show 15 live premiership matches at 3pm on Saturdays. Setanta Sports can also show 15 live matches on Saturday at 3pm but they don't clash. So far, Setanta have shown more of their 15 than RTÉ.

Both RTE and Setanta are always going to show one of Arsenal, Utd, Chelsea or Liverpool cos they are the crowd pullers simple as that. From next weeks fixures I'd reckon Everton v Villa would be the one to show, but that an't going to happen........

    Birmingham v Crystal Palace 12:45
    Arsenal v Southampton 15:00
    Charlton v Middlesbrough 15:00
    Everton v Aston Villa 15:00
    Fulham v Tottenham 15:00
    Portsmouth v Man Utd 15:00
    West Brom v Chelsea 15:00
    Blackburn v Liverpool 17:15

I think Portsmouth vs. Man utd will be a close game tbh, Villa everton will also be good, as will Fulham Tottenham.
It'll be a good weekend when you include Blackburn Liverpool

Why are RTE showing a meaningless one sided match between Arsenal and Southampton ?
This match will be one way traffic.
It is obvious the match they should be showing is Portsmouth V Man U which will be a tight match.

The only post I have seen with specific fixtures to be broadcast was posted by Mace Face on the Broadcasting forum. The RTÉ dates and fixtures he says RTÉ told him about. I assume Setanta will air a match on the other weeks, so I have all possible 3pm fixtures listed for them. However they will probably concentrate on the bigger clubs, so ones marked * are most likely I think, but that's only guesswork on my part.

    Nov 6th — RTÉ 2
    Chelsea VS Everton (Confirmed)

    Nov 13th — Setanta Sports
    Man City VS Blackburn Rovs
    Liverpool VS Crystal Palace *
    Fulham VS Chelsea *
    Charlton VS Norwich
    Bolton VS Aston Villa

    Nov 20th — RTÉ 2
    Middlesbrough VS Liverpool
    OR
    Chelsea VS Bolton

    Nov 27th — RTÉ 2
    Charlton VS Chelsea
    OR
    West Brom VS Man United

    Dec 4th — Setanta Sports
Man United VS Southampton (Confirmed by Celtic FC)

Dec 11th — Setanta Sports (Bad selection available!)
    West Brom VS Charlton
    Southampton VS Middlesbrough
    Norwich VS Bolton
    Newcastle VS Portsmouth *
    Manchester City VS Tottenham *
    Crystal Palace VS Blackburn

    Dec 18th — RTÉ 2
    Blackburn Rovs VS Everton
    OR
    Tottenham VS Southampton
(I notice Chelsea VS Norwich is also a 3pm K.O.)

AFAIK RTE/Setanta have the rights to show 15 live english premiership games, kicking off at 3pm on Saturdays only. Sky are the only ones with the rights to the Carling Cup (again, afaik), so RTE won't be showing the game on Wednesday.

    Just on SKY

RTE for now only show Primership matches at 3pm on Sat. They have 15 for the year to show so they may also some one midweek once the CL and UEFA cup are almost complete and more primiership games are on mid week, but for now RTE and Setanta olny have English primership games at 3pm on a Saturday.

SKY are the only ones show the Carling Cup (which is the game on wednesday)

SKY and BBC have the FA cup.

Think I can safely say that RTE have only ever shown semi finals of the Carling, and that was years ago, last night was, of course, the Quarters. :)

It was actually the First Divison as Sky bought the rights to the Premier League when it was first formed.RTE got shut out then.

I dont ever recall RTE showing a league cup game. They did always show european matches though.

When the PL came in to existance in 1992 RTE could no longer show games live so they put them on at 3.30 tape -delayed, that only lasted a seson or so, whether it was ditched for viewership reasons on a change in the rights I am ot sure

BolBill, I do not recall RTE ever showing a English League Cup game in the past 25 years with the possible exception of a final or two back in the early 1980s.

I don't think RTE ever had Premiership matches at 3.30 on Saturdays. The delayed First Division coverage (3.30) on RTE ended in the early 90's (possibly when the Premiership came in). They had such coverage from the mid 80's. However I think they could show FA Cup Round matches live at 3.00 over this period. They definitely had the Hillsborough game live in 1989. The FA Cup Semi between the two Sheffield teams was also live in 1993. Can remember a Cup match with Blackburn when Kevin Moran was with them on live too. With RTE then it was a bit haphazard from one season to the next. The 3.30 thing was a killer as I could never resist the temptation to peek at Aertel for latest scores.
