a new television station, what would you choose?

Anyone got an idea for a new TV channel?, presumably themed around some genre or style of programs/films.

My own would be a 100% 80s channel, showing cartoons, television shows, music videos etc. from the 80s.

yes, any time me and my friends discuss this sorta thing, an 80's channel is always on everyone's tongue. Some great shows came form the 80s; Transformers, A-Team, Airwolf, Knight Rider, Magnum PI etc

It at least deserves a theme night on C4

Ahem, only joking! Actually I think a public access channel would be great, finally a place for real aspiring muppets to be a star. I'm sure it would give shine to some real budding film-makers and news creators.

Pardon the sarcasm, butI've had to put up with said programs for the last 20 years.

Personally, I'd go for a slightly tamer C4 / Sky1 or a 'really good' movie channel.

That reminds me of a sketch on the Conan O Brian Show (bring back NBC btw).

"The Punch Somebody In The Face Channel", basically there would be a counter and when it hit zero, you'd punch the screen. The person on screen would then act as if he was just punched in the face. very funny. They also had a "scare the hell out of someone" channel, same sorta thing.

Anime!! A channel dedicated to showing the many anime series ever made. If this is on digital, there should be an object to watch it with the original voice acting with subtitles. People who thinks I am nuts is the reason for this channel, they just don't know what they are missing...

TV channel dedicated to Dublin would be nice. There are so many things we have to put up with in Dublin so you country people have it easy.

Programs like "How to stop a scanger stealing your car 2?", "Ten o'clock fight", "What do you hate more: the buses or the dart?". Programs like that, which Dubliners can relate to. and oh yeah, it has to be Independent from the Government funding or its just gonna be crap.

yeah chubby an anime channel would be my 2nd choice, theres so much material to show and its still being produced in huge quantities so you wouldnt run out of stuff to show

Getting back on topic - I'd have a "Cult" kind of channel - Show all the Cult Sci-Fi like Star Trek, Battlestar Gallactica, Buck Rogers etc. I'd also have cartoons like Battle of the Planets (thanks Bravo), Gundam, Transformers and stuff like that. I'd also have newer stuff like Buffy/Angel, X-Files and stuff.

It'd be a great idea to devote a weekend entirely to one show every once in a while - have an X-Files weekend or a Transformers weekend - stuff like taht'd be cool.

Get some non-standard music in there too alá MTV2 and fire in a couple of news programs and documentarys on strange subjects and I reckon it could be a goodie.

A channel that shows live bands, up and coming bands all the time....and audiences can vote for the best bands.....it'd be especially good for Ireland because, bands in Ireland don't really have any good outlets to expose themselves!!!

The reality is that all of this stuff is out there ,like a channell with great movies 24/7 or a channell with non-stop classic cartoons and 80's music etc. etc.

The only problem is you've got to pay for it all!

I think the best idea would be a public acsess channell ,but none of this "potential steven speilberg" crap , just have like Comedy ,and no drama or films ,because you have to have talent to do those ,and if someone had talent in these areas ,they wouldn't be on public acsess ,or they would be very rare to be on there at best, but just about anybody could do comedy, and there would be a lot of Tom green style comedy, no stand up, and Jackass style comedy also!!

This is an EXCELLENT idea!

With this resource, we could round up all the potential Tom Green wannabes and Jackass morons, and place them in special secure facilities designed for holding the lowest forms of life in society. Padded walls and absolutely no contact with the outside world would be a must. What a fantastic way of getting all their names, too! Sir, you are a genius, I salute you!
