just to take on example
John Richard Boyle, 15th Earl of Cork and Orrery (b. 1945)
15th Earl of the county of Cork inter alia.

so born well after 1922, and has an irish title.
what is the story with this?

I was googling and found something about the lords situation for current (early 90s) Irish peers

and more generally

also I found out that Ireland has a Chief Herald (see the national library of ireland site)

there is alot of info, and the botom line seems to be that the titles have no meaning in Ireland today, maybe some body recognises them, which one, well that is all that is left to find out.

Nominally, a number of titles still exist, but have no official recognition and no special rights. Some Northern titles exist and sit in the House of Lords (and there just might be some (by name) southern hereditaries left).
