Meh. It's all swings and roundabouts. Whatever works for each person I guess. Better to have a usable desktop than a shiny useless one. I personally hate desktop icons, but that's just me.

All those icons on your desktop actually cause your machine to slow down. Generally throw them into a subdirectory.

minimise all running programs
press the "print screen" button on your keyboard
open paint
right click over the blank page and select paste
save
upload to webspace

Use the 'print screen' key, then paste it into Paintbrush or whatever. Save it, then either post it as a link or an image as usual..

1. My fav that I lost ages ago, spent ages doing it for Talisman II
2. Theme for Aston Shell + Matching Rainlendar and Winamp 5 Skin, most of which you can find here.
3.TalismanII Again, can't find the theme but its out there somewhere. Msger Plus puts contacts on the desktop on bottom left.
4. Latest, pretty boring but does the job, gotta love msgerplus
