Not really. Vote rigging would involve somehow through malicious or fruadulent means, influencing people's choices, or physically changing people's votes after they're cast.

Really what he is doing is saying - Oh, btw there's an award type thing going on over there. I'd like to win, and I'd appreciate it if you vote for me if you think I should win too.

There's no arm-twisting, bribing, in fact nothing unsavoury going on here at all.

boards.ie is like having a big group of friends whom you can ring and ask to support you when you go on "You're a star" or "Celebrity Farm" or "IIA Internet Awards".

    :)

Not really. It could possible affect the outcome but if you don't make any attempt to affect the outcome of a vote you will probably lose. Also, if Tom didn't mention it someone else would have and in a far more compelling fashion. Voting for people you know or support is the entire basis of a voting system. Otherwise we would have to select random winners.
    Ave wrote:
Firstly, how many people that you are asking to vote, know any of the other "contestants"?
This sentence is a little vague. If you mean 'have any information about the other candidates' then I'd say 50:50.
    Ave wrote:
Secondly, how many are qualified to make a judgement?
Everyone is qualified to make a judgement. It's an open online vote. I went to the trouble of reading up a bit before voting, mainly as I wanted to vote without placing a bias against anyone else.
And thirdly, "There is one vote per category and only three people per company can vote." is rather obvious.
As is the means of circumventing it. Can I not vote in my capacity as part of another organisation (ligitimately so in my case). People might well chose "Boards.ie" as a company name purely on the basis of simplicity but many have other associations.

Actually we WROTE the system for the Zeddies (well, Regi did) and it was as tight a system as you could possibly get. We caught several groups doing some dodgy things to win! (Not that I doubt that some people voted twice!).
The Golden Spider... now that was a farce of epic proportions. They tried to rule all our votes as null and void... and then thought better of it!

These things are "who has the most online mates" awards. Getting nominated is really the acheivement.

Thanks for the votes guys, its appreciated.

I asked to be withdrawn. It was not right for a PR company to be sponsoring an award for journalism. Journalism is about more than just recycling press releases. :) The SR guys are definitely out on their own in terms of original content. My views on ENN's ecologically friendly publishing operation are well known. :)
