More than 150 new jobs have been announced for Cork.

The internet security firm McAfee is to establish a software operations centre in the city with the support of the IDA.

The Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment Micheál Martin who is currently on a marketing tour of the US with the IDA, made the announcement while visiting McAfee’s headquarters in California.

Some 80% of the 152 jobs due to come on stream over the next three years will require a third level qualification.

Minister Martin described getting the company to locate here as a coup for Ireland and for the IDA.

McAfee is one of the world’s best known virus protection manufacturers.

The Cork centre will develop new products and make them user-friendly for markets around the world.
