What's this location?

Is there a Geography board? I couldn't find one, so does anyone know what the attached screencap is a picture of? It was in the first part of the BBC documentary "The Power of Nightmares", and I'm guessing it's somewhere in Russia, some kind of city or citadel surrounded by water. I think.

Don't think there's that many bridges onto Isle of Dogs. Reminds me a bit of Luebeck in North Germany but don't imagine it's there either...

it looks like a camera taking a picture of a rive with a convex lens. could be anywhere with a bridge.

Can't be 100% on this, but I looks a bit like Riga in Latvia......the moat does'nt look quite right for it though...maybe enhanced by the lens.

It's a bad screenie, I'll see if I can get a better one. I don't think it was taken with a particularly convex lens, but I could be wrong.

Thats not a distorted view as the building on the left shows (straight verticals). The lens flare suggests its a real place and not on Hoth!

I've updated the screenshot in the first post with a larger version, but obviously I have to turn off hardware acceleration to take the screenie, which degrades the quality. So I've ripped the clip from the movie and saved it to several different formats here. It's only a three second clip, but it's a lot easier to decipher.

there is also one of the swedish cities that is made up or islands etc like that... looks a bit more like moscow or st.petersburg...

Architecture looks central or Eastern European. Traffic levels, snow and sun look "wrong". It does look like there is some lens action. Note the way the bridges fly over the quays, which is quite French.

I'm no good at that kind of stuff tbh. Definitely worth downloading the video if you can, it comes across much better.

They're talking about the former Soviet Union, which is why it's likely to be somewhere there.

The avenue that the photos look down are Kutuzovskiy prospekt, apparently a prestigious address. The tall builfing appears to be the Ukraina (Ukraine) Hotel.

The neighbourhood has a lot of the Russian / Moscow administrative stuff, inlcuding the White House of Russia (Yeltsin standing on tank, etc.), formerly housing the Russian parliament, it now has the Russian government.
