Brand new season is starting this week in the worlds most popular online footbvall management game which has 500,000 players worldwide.

The Irish national sides are very strong, the senior team reached the recent world cup and the u20 team has just qualified for the upcoming u20 world cup.

Its about as close as you can get to realistic management in a free online game. There are currently 667 Irish managers which is low compared to most countries of our strength in the game but we have a strong community started.

If anyone fancies testing their true management ability, head over to www.hattrick.org

You start with a full squad, a 12000 seater stadium and you have 300k to spend. Anyone who joins up can send me a PM and Ill try to help you out as much as I can. There is also a conference/forum system within the game with a lot of active irish posters.

I signed up last season and ran away with my division V.245 - not surprising since there were only computer controlled teams in my league. Got promoted to IV now and i hope to win a couple of matches in the cup and maybe sneak into a playoff place in the league.

When i started, my stadium was under 9000 capacity though and im fairly sure i didnt have 300k. Is that new for this season?

No you definitely started with 300k in the bank but I may be wrong about stadium size, I upgraded straight off the bat so cant remember too well.

Ive had two seasons without promoting from Division 5 but I was in a well established league, should win it this year now that I have training in order and have bought some decent players.

My team is Redsers Rovers in Division V.5 if anyone wants to get in touch in Hattrick

Not sure what the hell to do, but i've signed up.

Ya sure you'll be fine. Upgrade your stadium straight away and play safe till you have enough money in the bank to buy players. Invest in 1 goal tending coach and 9 outfield. Spokespersons are important for sponsorship so get cracking on those. Put 20k into your youth team a week. Fallow these goals and by the end of your first season you'll have a solid back bone in your team. Save up for a good coach as well, don't bother arsing around with inadequate coachs. Oh and don't train general. Start with stamina to get your midfield fit, if not already. Then concentrate your training on your prefered area of the field.

    thats all sound advice indeed

    1. invest 20k a week in your youth team

    2. never buy players with less than passable in their best skill i.e. dont buy an inadequate defender to play in defence or whatever

    3. wait until you save some cash to get a coach, preferably solid coach but passable should be as good

    4. train stamina for two weeks at the start and decide on a training field to specialise in straight after these two weeks. i advise Defending cos thats what I train

    5. buy 17 year old lads to train, its the only way to make big money

    6. never train general

    7. use the conferences to ask questions and learn

Cracking news that so many of you are signing up lads (and lasses?)

It's quite hard to master at first (where'd be the fun if it was easy?) but stick with it, it's a belting game. If you get stuck, get yourself on the message board there (called Conferences) and start asking questions.

My own site: Tiptree Tribune has some useful tips to get started and a "How to..." section as an idiot-proof guide to the important basics.

One thing no-one's mentioned here yet is, as well as investing the max in your youth team, make sure you "pull a youth" every week. Chances are when you start out, your youth pulls won't be able to even kick a ball straight, but you never know! It's a bit of a lottery and one of you could unearth the next Damien Duff! You can "promote a youth" from your "My club" page.

    Good luck everyone!

Edit: Oh, and Drake... FM2005 is all well and good... but unless you have a VERY lenient boss (or a cushy job!) chances are you can't install it at work. Now, an ONLINE game like Hattrick, that's another matter... ;)

How does the game work ? Do you play one game a night ? How long in real time does a session go on for ?

Sorry to drag old posts up :o (i've berated n00bs for it elsewhere)

But theres been a spate of advertising for Hattrick round the uni (NUIG) of late , anyone know why there so kkeen to have more users now? its a bit odd....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,810 ✭✭✭DRakE

    Boro, if that works..

    You = God.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,560 ✭✭✭Boro

Oh it works Drake, it works :D

Its a bit slow, but you can play the matchs with highlights turned off and catch most of the action.

Good thing about Real VNC (www.realvnc.com) is that the viewer doesnt need to be installed - hence no reg settings!
