There is a small adds section on the message boards on www.ucdsu.net. It mostly contains information about jobs and accomodation. Unfortunately the message boards are down at the moment but should be back up during the week.

Does buying or selling something through the UCDsu involve a compulsory donation to the Socialist Party?

Seriously though, a dedicated site would be a good idea.

No the mod of that particular forum is a Labour member and good mate of mine, and he wont ask for a donation.

I'd suggest UCD Exchange as a name, and I think it is a good idea. Especially for books - a lot of people won't sell to the SU bookshop because you only get paid if the book sells (not unreasonable, but also not standard), so UCD coursebooks end up being sold in town or elsewhere. A message board could be a great way to find things.

I think thats a brilliant idea! We've all seen the handmade flyers around campus made by students trying to sell books. It would be so much easier if all that buying and selling could be coordinated in the one place. I think such a website would do really well - let us know of any progress you make on it!

I think it's awful that the college support the overpriced monopoly that is the campus bookshop - i mean what's so unfair about allowing the SU shop to sell both new and used books?

They don't. It is put out to tender every couple of years, and their licence has only been extended by 9 months because of complaints. The shop pays rent etc.
