    Hi all,

I'm trying to install Typo3 & set up a apache server on my machine here.

I'm running WinXP-Pro SP2 and have just downloaded WAMP-quickstart-3.6.0RC1-2.exe Installation went okay but cannot get the webserver started.

When I hit 'start the Apache' - a dos window flicks open, it says Apache is starting, then closes.

When I hit 'start MySQL' - I get a dos win which ends with, 'MySQL is starting with mysql\bin\my.cnf (console), this dos win stays open.

When I try to browse to - http://localhost/ or http://127.0.0.1/ - get the following dialogue:
"Windows cannont find http://localhost/. Make sure to typed the name correctly... yadda yada"

Has anyone installed Typo3 & come across this before (I've installed twice - same issue)

    I've installed XAMPP

    Is installed but I still can't access - http://localhost (or http://127.0.0.1)

    Does anyone know why?

XAMPP help tells me the following:

NO! XAMPP uses a proxy server ... Please configure your browser to go around local addresses. XAMPP uses a firewall ... So open port 80 (HTTP) and 3306 (MySQL) for internal connections.

Can someone tell me how to do this?

Sorry for the 'basicness' of these questions :-)

Have a look at your internet settings. It's all in there :)

Cheers, I don't really understand this whole port thing but it worked.

    Thanks again.

    Slightly off topic....

To get the best from Typo3 - I'd suggest running it on linux!
Also - if you're having trouble connecting to your local host - you're going to have an even bigger nightmare trying to get the system to generate graphical navigation menus on the fly.
