    Go and read it. I took it on holidays years ago and loved it completely - brilli-bloody-ant.

    As long as you can keep track of the names you're away with it. Magic Realism was never so good.

    does it get better after the first 50 pages? I found it was so boring it was the opposite of a page turner - I read less and less each sitting until I eventually binned it.

    Yes it does get better. That's the bit you have to take a deep breath and just read through - then you really start to enjoy it and are glad you made the effort.

    Of course that's just my opinion. Feel free to disagree.
